If you had proof - certainty - of Harry Rag's identity, would you reveal it?

I wouldn't, what's the point? If I knew who it was and they'd made specific, worrying threats, I might report them to the police, but I see no value in an online war.

I hear what you say, but wouldn't his unmasking help end the war?

No, ignoring them would. They're idiots, let them wear themselves out. Apply the same rules as here - report them if they cross a line, otherwise ignore. If they carry on after Raffaele has threatened to sue then more fool them. I wouldn't willingly cross swords with Bongiorno!

Ignoring them won't do anything. Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

I'm really uncomfortable with this - report individuals to the police if there have been actual threats or to Twitter, service providers - but this just seems to be inciting more hatred and feels really threatening.

It feels like they're being given a dose of their own medicine, and it serves them right.

Honestly, you folks need to toughen up. These trolls can either shut up and go away, or get sued by the Sollecitos, and there is no question in my mind that the Sollecitos will follow through. Which is more humane?

But why does anyone else need to get involved? Who cares if they want to spout cobblers on the internet? It's an echo chamber, nobody knows about them beyond their little circle.

Also there seems to be a major disconnect happening here - Knox's people haven't threatened to sue anyone, Sollecito's have. So what purpose does an "Amanda Knox Haters" site serve?

That platitude has nothing to do with that site. The site isn't exposing their arguments, just their identities. It achieves nothing except to needlessly stir things up. They lost, let it go.

As far as I am aware, Rag has made one post since Friday about the case, on PMF. His twitter account has said nothing since before the verdict.

He's been cowed.

I think everyone is seriously forgetting that all participants were on a knife edge. As Charlie Wilkes has made crystal clear, neither Raffaele Sollecito nor Amanda Knox could know till the death whether their lives had value or were worthless. The polis followed Raffeale and waited outside for the verdict. He was entitled to seriously expect to spend the next 17 years in the sex offender's wing of Cappane according to the intense wishes of the people in the web link. Amanda could expect to be permanently contingently requisitioned according to the vagaries of the bilateral political allegiance between Italy and America.

Hindsight is a marvellous thing, but the people in the weblink were within a heartbeat of being vindicated and forever victorious. Everyone knows that prising people out of jail is nigh impossible, and decades pass like a gambler's lucky streak. That is how close it was.

I think that is what Diocletus is saying.

Amanda is not a member here. If she were, posting opinions like the one mentioned would not be allowed. Otherwise she is a public figure and people can post their opinion of her at their own risk. (In my opinion)

Popper & TomM seem to have disappeared as well and "The Bard" deleted her @santamariaxx twitter account.

None of that has anything to do with that website, and I don't think that's what Diocletus is saying.

That's not really true, is it?

The fact of the matter is that those websites contains, probably tens of thousands of awful, disgusting, defamatory posts about people who have been the victims of a very cruel miscarriage of justice. The continued existence of the websites is an ongoing publication of actionable material, and the Sollecitos are sitting in Bari, Italy with a very favorable set of laws, a friendly prosecutor and every incentive and desire to take a chunk out of somebody's ass.

I think that the sunshine site is going to help the trolls in the long run, because it's going to make them think about what's important to them.

They may be publicly available but I don't see any relevance to the discussion. It makes the debate personal and does not further the discussion, in my opinion.

I think it's relevant. We've talked about these websites and these characters many, many times in these threads. The websites and trolls are a huge part of this case and an amazing phenomena that I don't think has been seen, at least to this extent, anywhere else. The whole thing is worth some serious thought. It's also going to be a continuing part of this story--perhaps the most important part, as the Sollecitos have clearly announced their intentions to take formal action, which will lead to investigations and likely prosecutions.

Well I think it's needless stirring that adds nothing to the debate and puts whoever created it in a morally questionable position.

Raffaele's lawyers don't need any help sueing people who defame him, which is apparently not what that site is for anyway (since it's called Amanda Knox Haters).

It seems especially pointless when it's followed up by a load of posts claiming that many of the haters have shut up shop anyway.
