Continuation Part 14: Amanda Knox/Raffaele Sollecito

Seems it was Sollecito's lawyer that said that in his summing up. Maybe they said they agreed? Or it's just doing the echo chamber

I remember watching the acquittal, and also the Nencini conviction, and all they did was read out the defendants name, then the charges, then the verdict, then the law, and sentence?

Not sure of the order, but I haven't seen any commentary in any of the other readings. Seems like the judges just come in, read their verdict, and that's it.

But I'd love ot know if more was said. Can't believe I didn't see a live feed. I tried to set up in advance, and still screwed the pooch!

I think for me Machiavelli has helped enough in my understanding of this case. I thought I would have quite a lot of schadenfreude about my feelings for those in the PGP camp in what seemed to me the highly unlikely scenario that has unfolded tonight, but hearing about Amanda Knox's joy at the verdict has totally overwhelmed those feelings. I do hope that the Kerchers get the time and space to come to terms with the right verdict and get some kind of closure in the knowledge that the killer of their beloved daughter was found guilty and given a sentence, albeit not the length of time he really deserved.

I broadly agree - but for me, the problem is this: firstly, in my opinion, no reasonable, impartial person who ever looked at the evidence (and the quality of that evidence) and the non-evidence in this case should/could ever have concluded that Knox or Sollecito should be convicted. And secondly, even for those who did (erroneously) believe that the evidence proved Knox's/Sollecito's guilt, they often seemed far too keen on vilifying and (for want of a better term in this web 2.0 age) "hating on" Knox particularly, and Sollecito almost as much so.

So it's all very well for them to say that they respect the SC's decision, or that they hope the SC "made the right decision for the right reasons", but what they really should be doing is examining themselves very closely: why did they devote so much time, effort and emotion campaigning against Knox and Sollecito? Why did they taunt them frequently with bullying, nasty insults (maybe, for example, "mimi" will publish her disgusting collection of "funny" cartoons now. No? Thought not.). And they might want to ask themselves just what it is in their psychopathy that they have dedicated so much time, energy and emotion trying to get Knox and Sollecito convicted of murder - the murder of a woman whom virtually all of them never knew, but who seemed to assume a near mythical quality to so many of them.

I declare my respect and friendship towards Machiavelli. Sincere and courageous but wrong. As for the rest of the guilters, nothing but contempt. Setting up hate sites, portraying themselves as concerned for the victim when in truth using this case as an outlet for their spite and wilfully blind to the facts in their hermetically sealed world. Let them choke on this. They are irrelevant anyway. I hope Italy goes after the bastards who stitched this abomination of justice together.

I am on holiday in a hotel room in Brighton so am only able to use a phone to get news. Can anyone tell me what the reaction to this news is on the PMFs. I admit that my only real reason for wanting to know is an element of schadenfreude.

My understanding is that at least one of the hate sites has pulled the plug

The evil Guilters must also pay dearly.

No, I disagree. I do, however, think it's time for them to pack up their strange little tent and shuffle off quietly. And I also think they would benefit from some self-analysis and reflection on what they actually did, said and wrote about this case, and why they did it.

So:
Will the Kerchers have their closure?
Will Rudy finally come clean?
Will Maresca make any money off of this at all?
Will Mignini, Stefanini, et. all suffer any repremand?
Will this thread finally die down? :)

Rudy is a huge liability.

I agree with everything in this post and I do feel the same way toward Machiavelli. He is very smart and I do appreciate his views, even if they aren't always the same as mine. This is a glorious day.

Being that this a skeptic board, I agree. Nice if those who argued for guilt would examine their positions.

I don't think the online abuse of Amanda and Raffaele will end here, sadly.

The thought of Sollecito being hauled away to prison today for a quarter of a century for something he did not do was truly sickening. Amanda would have been free in Seattle for the present. Now both of them are free to get on with their lives without this huge shadow looming over them.

For the Kercher family, the worst possible thing that could ever happen to them already happened more than 7 years ago. I hope that one day, they can appreciate that Meredith's friend had nothing to do with her death, and had nothing but kind and friendly feelings for her.
