Cruz steps into the ring...

Perhaps this will be the time Oprah decides to finally cash in and grab for direct power. Who could overcome the popularity of Oprah? The throne is hers for the asking. And you get a dictator, and you get a dictator, and you get a dictator! Now build unto Oprah a temple five hundred cubits by two hundred cubits, sheathed in gold! All hail Oprah! Oprah the Great! THE Oprah!!

Oprah has run a large organization successfully for many years. She's far more qualified to run the Executive Branch than a rich boy who failed to run an oil company and baseball team well or a random lawyer/freshman congresscritter.

If she ran with Chris Rock for her veep I'd vote twice!

There are plenty of real issues to confound his chances, so the bogus, albeit fun-filled, "revenge birther" ploy is likely a bad idea and could just serve to bolster his image as a victim of the press.

I don't think anyone on the left would seriously push Cruz birtherism. At worst it'll be used to mock the Obama birthers and highlight their insincerity.

I get a warning pop up that says both installs are not recommended for my operating system and can cause performance issues and bugs.

Anti-virus software classifies them as PUPs: Potentially Unwanted Presidents.

To continue the boxing theme, he's fighting out of his weight class and he's gonna get starched in the first round.

Nope. He's in it for the long haul. He's not going to win, but he'll have enough true believers to keep him in the race. Along the way, he will be taking pot shots at the front runner. He's a Democrats dream.

I hope!
But this almost feels Fred Thompsonish. Like he's not going to get serious.

It's not about creating a "revenge birther" ploy, but about the total hypocrisy that will ensue among conservatives who will think there is no reason that Cruz should not be eligible after seven years of screaming that Obama is ineligible.

No way; I've been told that's called "tu quoque", not hypocrisy.

;)

I'd be careful. So far, what he's really managed to do is distract attention away from Hillary, and present himself as the first of the republican potentials.

It could be that he's so nutty, that being the first, other candidates will look much better in comparison. The eventual front runner will be 'At least he's not Ted Cruz!', and look moderate.

Let’s Be Serious About Ted Cruz From The Start: He’s Too Extreme And Too Disliked To Win

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s newly minted presidential campaign is the media equivalent of a juicy rib-eye that robbers use to distract a guard dog during a heist. He’ll get a ton of media attention, and he’ll get to spread his message — which may be all that Cruz is after — but Cruz almost certainly has no shot of winning the nomination, according to every indicator that predicts success in presidential primaries.

Ted Cruz thinks that the only way for the GOP to take the White House is if they nominate a True ConservativeTC. Which would be him of course. According to him, McCain and Romney lost because they were too moderate. And thus his strategy is to focus his appeal on teabaggers while attacking the "moderates".

I think that this the only person that this strategy might help to put into the White House is Hillary Clinton. He's going to pull the whole GOP clown car to the right as they fight with him over the teabagger vote. Unfortunately for Republicans, while it may be necessary to pander to teabaggers to win the primary it also makes winning the general election harder.

The problem for the other Republicans is that they are going to have to run saying "I'm a lot like Ted Cruz just not ******* crazy." And that will probably work to get the nomination but as always it will cause some big issues come November.

For me, his science denialism is a major strike against him. One cannot lead responsibly if one cannot accept cold hard facts because of an ideological filter. Ted Cruz appears to be nothing but ideological filter.

This is why a Republican in any large role these days will not win my vote. Locally, they aren't all complete idiots, and often get my vote. But in the Big Leagues, they do not anymore.

If they cannot understand basic science, or accept what 97% of experts in a particular field of science are telling them, then why should they be any better at accepting any other evidence at economics, foreign policy, etc.?

Here is a nice list of recent stupid things Cruz said that Phil Plait put together:

I'm fond of 'I'm just here so I don't get fined'.

Apparently Cruz's repetitious theme was "imagine" what it'll be like when I'm president, which lead to these gems...

This convo is difficult to sit through due to my general lack of imagination

Imagine this is all a dream

IMAGINE
Did John Lennon write this speech or what

I am still waiting for an intelligent discussion concerning him. So far nothing but fail ridicule and name calling. Fairly typical of Liberals though. I suspect I shouldn't expect better, even on a skeptic forum.

Blatant denial of science pretty much sums it up for me.

That's a good starting point. More reasons I oppose him: he's anti-abortion, opposes gay-marriage, supports the death penalty, for voter id, opposes gun restrictions, wants to kill Obamacare, he's against illegal alien amnesty of any kind, wants to waste more money on the border patrol, opposed to separation of church and state, wants to get rid of social security, supports a single rate tax system.

Thinks extended unemployment benefits during the worst financial crisis since the depression is bad. On a personal note, without extended unemployment benefits I would have probably lost my house. **** you Ted Cruz.

He was passive aggressively bullying to Charles Bolden, NASA administrator. It seemed very poor manners to me. And he opposses gay marriage and Common Core is the biggest domestic policy he can remember long enough to tweet about wanting to cancel.
