Cruz steps into the ring...

What do you have against Ted Cruze? What is the liberal argument.

You haven't illustrated this

I'll put my Chevrolet Cruze up against your Ted Cruze any time. It's made in America.

At his speech at Liberty U, the students who live on campus were forced to go or face a $10 fine. How's that for freedom?

Liberty UniversityWP is an Orwellian name for a college that imposes so many restrictions on students. Especially when you learn that the name was changed to Liberty University in 1984. :D

Is there anyone here who thinks Cruz would be a good candidate? I don't recall a single Cruz fan on this board, there might be but none I'm aware of.
I am still waiting for an intelligent discussion concerning him. So far nothing but fail ridicule and name calling. Fairly typical of Liberals though. I suspect I shouldn't expect better, even on a skeptic forum.

Why not start one, then? What are his merits?

For me, his science denialism is a major strike against him. One cannot lead responsibly if one cannot accept cold hard facts because of an ideological filter. Ted Cruz appears to be nothing but ideological filter.

Honestly, though, he doesn't stand a chance. His extreme right base is far too narrow. More moderate conservatives don't like him and independents and liberals loath him.

Well I don't understand his position myself. He is new to me. I saw him say he wants to promote small businesses over big businesses.
At the end of the day, two-thirds of all new jobs in the economy come from small business. And we need the boot of the government off the back of the neck of small business.
That I agree 100%. Then I saw this:
cut federal interference with the private market.
We should cut corporate tax rates to 15 percent
And several other quotes leaving me to believe he actually is in the pocket of big business, not small business.

Then this:
Cruz signed the No Climate Tax Pledge, which stated, “I pledge to the taxpayers of my state, and to the American people, that I will oppose any legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.”
That's so full of political doublespeak I can't make heads or tails of it. It could be interpreted many ways. What exactly is his stated position? He knows AGW is real but doesn't like the tax solution? Or he doesn't mind a tax increase so long as somewhere else a subsidy is paid, making for no net increase in government revenue? Or he wants to prevent the energy sector from growing..thus that sector won't be generating more tax revenue even at a static tax rate? Or he wants to prevent growth of other industries (like agriculture) working on climate change? Or he wants the alternatives to grow but won't tax them? Or he doesn't believe AGW real? That gobbledigook could be interpreted into anything.

So much like most politicians, you can't really figure out much of anything he says without a voting context or without some interpretation. Over all he is for no tax increases and solving the deficit with growth instead. I can get behind that as a general principle. He opposes ObamaCare. I can get behind that too. He is in adamant opposition of the National Defense Authorization Act, the Transportation Security Administration, the Stop Online Piracy Act, and other internet censorship, as he sees them as a violation of citizens’ civil liberties. I can get behind that too. I don't agree with him on immigration, but I am equally opposed to the democrats position as well. Doubtful I will see a candidate with a position I agree with on that issue..from any party. He is in opposition to public funding of abortions, and so am I.

I guess for me the big question marks are EXACTLY what is his position on the environment and business? The stated positions are too vague for me to discern.

I'd tell Ted Cruz the same thing I told Oswald.
"If you think you have a shot at the presidency, take it."

Imagine if Sarah Palin were intelligent and professionally accomplished. That's Ted Cruz, self-styled maverick, religious nutcase of a high order, operating without the burden of facts.
