DOJ: Ferguson PD descrimination against blacks is routine

Elections take time and money. Maybe in the absence of a systemically oppressive system, 67% of the community will have an opportunity to do just that.
If the people want change they need to vote. I have not read anything about the system suppressing votes. The mayor ran unopposed in the last election.
I doubt it costs very much money to run for mayor or councilman. If it is important enough to them, people will vote. No excuses.

Apparently, you haven't read the thread. Take your time.

I must have missed the voter suppression part. If you would kindly direct me to that part, I would be much obliged.

Regardless of reasons for not voting, the fact remains that it is the only lasting, meaningful solution. Nothing else will work as well or in the long term.

It is, but there are some steps that need to happen to get to that point. There has to be a level playing field without the systemic oppression of the majority of the citizens. Beyond that, that majority has to believe that the system can actually work for them, which will be very difficult to achieve since it has actively worked against them for generations. Arguably, for the entire existence of the country.

You can't expect that a mindset that has been taught for generations to change overnight.

Why not? We have seen people turn into high technology users overnight. People my age (51) and younger have embraced incredible change overnight. Young people, the majority of the majority of Ferguson residents have the right, the ability, the know how, and the money to effect change overnight by getting out to vote. Then they can have a mayor, city council, cops, and bureaucrats that reflact their will.

There are no excuses.

How about this...we have all elections on the same day?

Apparently, Ferguson's local elections are in the middle of April, on odd-numbered years. Well, why not just hold the elections on the same day as the presidential elections? It's simpler, it's less expensive...and so it's better. I think that that could be the start of good things...

Man, I hate it when two threads get so tied at the hip that I forget what happened in one vs the other. Here is my other post on this, including a link.

It does get confusing, doesn't it?

To be clear, I view you as a friend. There will be arguments, sometimes, but this isn't even arguing, it's just brainstorming - thinking about what the best move is.
