It's also often quoted as, "Keep the pointy end up and the angry end down." But of course actual rockets start pitching over very soon after initial ascent, usually just as soon as it gets enough airspeed to have good aerodynamic stability. The general mission profile is to get going downrange very, very fast. It's a cross between attaining the proper altitude and getting enough downrange speed to achieve an orbit at that altitude. Only sounding rockets tend to go straightish up.
Of course absolutely no other country but the United States ever sent any sounding rockets several hundred miles above the Earth's surface to see what it's like up there. Only one man in the history of space exploration over five decades has ever put a radiation counter that far up in the sky -- James Van Allen. So luckily all you have to do is strong-arm him into recanting his published findings and lie for the rest of his life. That will ensure that no one will ever know how much radiation is in the trapped radiation belts. And of course the engineers in all the countries that send spacecraft into geostationary orbit have to be secretly given the real data for space radiation. Because if they used the publicly available models, which must necessarily underestimate the dose rates in order to make it seem like Apollo succeeded, their spacecraft electronics would burn out and their solar panels would be destroyed. And it's a good thing none of those engineers in five decades has ever screwed up and let anyone see or copy the "real" radiation figures, or has ever gotten a pang of conscience to spill the beans. The Powers That Be must count themselves lucky that it's so easy to conceal the behavior of the universe from any unauthorized inspection.

I have been trying to remember where I heard this but it hasn't come to me yet ! The story is part of an upcoming WW2 book that talks about a manned ICBM that the nazi's tested twice ! The second test was a flight toward Tokyo where the pilot bailed out successfully guiding the rocket to target ! If the war had gone on 6 more months Hitler was going to nuke New York with this system ! I heard this on an Intenet radio show within the past week but like I said I cannot remember witch one , but if it is true the info will soon be out there ! How's that for rocketry !

Obviously you enjoy Internet radio. Do you read any history books or books on space science? Any non-sensationalist sources?
Wish I could but my eyes barely allow forum conversation ! I have strain to make out the posts ! Radio and video's work best for me ! Maybe a 50 inch monitor might do the trick ??

OK, let's pretend you're not merely trolling. Please give specific answers to my post 989. No comic book fantasies about CIA agents and 9-foot aliens in Shuttles. I work in this business - my first bosses were Apollo veterans - and am not interested in breathless fiction.

46 years and no other manned flight by any country has returned to the Van Allen belt ! We keep hearing China will go in 2025 ! If it were real it would be common place by now ! We have the TR3b and TR3c in our black projects that go all the time but there isn't enough shielding on an Appolo craft to make the trip unshielded ! That's why I believe the Mother ship was used ! You don't have to believe it you can just sit here year after year and say back in the good old days we could fly right up there with a rocket craft I know because that's what I was told !!

Actually, they faked the landings on the moon. Just turned out easier to do that way.

Why limit it to manned flights? Do you think other spacecraft are not bothered by radiation? Do you realize that there are other spacefaring nations besides the United States? Do you realize that the commercial spacefaring industry, which operates in and beyond the Van Allen belts, is a tens-of-billions-of-dollars per year industry?

Okay, let's talk numbers. 7 g cm-2. Tell me why that isn't enough for the trajectory Apollo followed. Show your work.
