Auld Whang's Prime

Should auld and brownish stains be sought,
And never thought a crime,
Should auld and brownish stains be sought,
Your Shroud is still sublime.

For Whanger's in his prime my dear,
For Whanger's in his prime!
For Whanger's in his prime my dear
And no one's doing time!

We'll raise a cup of of hematite,
And make a shroud a shrine,
Lest carbon dating get it right,
The godly start to whine.

For Whanger's in his prime my dear,
For Whanger's in his prime!
For Whanger's in his prime my dear
And no one's doing time!

Should auld and brownish stains be sought,
And never thought a crime,
Should auld and brownish stains be sought,
That Shroud is still sublime.

Our posters fought a winning bout,
Exposed the saintly grime,
Nay, all the magic seams you tout,
Tis carbon sets the time.

'Tis carbon sets the time, my dear,
'Tis carbon sets the time!
'Tis carbon sets the time, my dear,
'Tis carbon sets the time!

The auld and brownish stains cannot,
Be auld as theists claim,
Yet, auld and brownish stains besot,
So Shroud enjoys its fame.

So Shroud enjoys its fame, I fear,
So Shroud enjoys its fame!
The Shroud enjoys its fame, my dear
For Whanger's in his prime.

Happy New Year!!

I'm a little disappointed that Jabba claimed to be looking for this thread, and when it was found, did not bother to tell us why.

He might have been looking for a different thread or just for a specific piece of info from this one.

I surmise he wanted to use it as evidence of
1) how well he acquitted himself in the lion's den, and
2) how poorly he was dealt with, here...

Which reminds me -

we were in Turin last September having an argument about whether we'd visited the church with the shroud in it (we had) so we retraced our steps to prove a point. It seems that they have moved the silver casket from the church (public building) to the museum (pony up some dough), but left a lovely image of the shroud in the velvet lined, glass-fronted display case in the corner of the church. The interesting bit: there were about a dozen people earnestly praying around where the 14th century tablecloth isn't kept and, of course, there was still the opportunity to make a donation to the church.

Yes, of course. The Stained Tablecloth was meant to be a religious money-making enterprise for someone from the start, and it's not surprising given the nonsense people believe that it still is.

Hmmmm. Jabba has made no posts since the post looking for this thread (more than a week ago). Hope everything's OK with him.

Organizing

- Thanks, Ward.
- I'm fine -- just even older and slower than I was.

- I've been wanting to get back for a few months now, but needed to finish something else first.
- This time, my primary interest is to see how well we can organize the pros and cons. Our topic has several sub-topics, and then layers and layers of sub-sub-topics. I would like to see how well we can list them -- and, score them.
- Seeya later.

Oy Gevalt !

If we cannot agree on a single point, then why might you think we can agree on scores for each point of contention? And what would such score represent, anyway?

Oh my god, there is reincarnation!

Jabba- glad you are well! But if your goal will be a more precise organization of the pros and cons, with topics, subtopics, sub-subtopics, sub-sub-topics, plus scoring as is done in the "America's Got Talent," I would only ask that you remember that you tried this in multiple ways already, with no positive effect, and that you probably have much better things to do with your life(s). Enjoy your family and your surroundings- don't go off on a meaningless cause.

Ladewig,
- I'll register my scores (which may be temporary; and, you guys will register yours.

Giordano,

- Mostly, I just think it could be useful to summarize the whole story -- if that's possible. If it's impossible for us to do the whole thing, whatever we can summarize could be built upon. The scores are only the desert.

- And, if you recall, I allowed that you guys were winning some of our specific fights.

Open parentheses, semicolon, "and" then comma. My high school English teacher would have beat me with a ruler for this.

Jabba, with whom do you plan on registering these scores?

Good Morning, Mr. Savage!

I wonder if you will continue to ignore my posts...

What "scores" do you, personally, think you have, that have not already been dealt with, and dismissed?

I don't mean to seem rude, or to give you another excuse to dismiss me, but seriously: Do you intend to address the fact that the "image" on the manifestly medieval linen cloth is a stylized, anatomically impossible, physically ridiculous, scripturally inaccurate, representation, in the byzantine style, of an idealized human; or do you, instead, intend to pursue the, "Well, the experts must have missed 'some patching', in an unknown style and with unduplicatable technique, and they were all in collusion anyway," line of reasoning?

Slowvehicle,

- Not for awhile, at least.

- I'm going to try to find out.

I've got an idea.

Let's not play pointless games, and instead just present the evidence for examination.
