Merged Whitney Houston dead

Official cause of death ruled as Accidental Drowning ..

Give me a break ..

What's to disagree with? What's being reported here is that she drowned, but that she'd recently taken cocaine, and that her heart had been affected by prolonged drug use. Sounds like the cocaine caused her to lose consciousness, and she drowned. Whether she'd have survived if she hadn't been in the bath is another matter.

Is there a misadventure verdict in the US? In the UK accident and misadventure are separate, but are usually combined into a single category (accident/misadventure) for statistical purposes.

ETA: Scrub that - misadventure applies only to lawful acts which have unintended consequences.

The other possible verdict (other than open) in the UK would be

Died from dependence on drugs / non-dependent abuse of drugs: Where an individual’s death was a consequence of the use of drugs, this verdict is appropriate. It is usually returned in relation to illicit rather than prescription drugs. The verdicts distinguish between individuals who had a dependency upon the drugs they were abusing and those who did not.

She had cocaine, marijuana, Xanax, muscle relaxant and Benadryl in her system.

What was she aiming for with that lot?!

At the end of the article WH's family states that she was possibly the victim of foul play.

I can't shed a tear for WH, she made bad choices that ruined her voice and her health, but it always seems a bit sad when a family can't accept that their loved one was a drug addict. Foul play? No.

Sad story, predictable death, not-surprisingly overdone wailing over the sad story, predictable death. And amazingly overrated artist; her career, such as it was, consisted of a big hit cover song and a couple decades of drug abuse.

Houston's daughter found unresponsive in tub

Whitney Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was found unresponsive in a bathtub Saturday, almost exactly three years after her mother died in the same manner.

A spokeswoman for the Roswell, Ga., Police Department, Officer Lisa Holland, said Brown was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation until rescuers arrived.

"Her husband and a friend located her in a bath tub this morning and she was unresponsive," their statement read. "He started CPR and a police officer took over life-saving measures until an ambulance arrived. She was transported to the hospital. Please keep her and the family in your thoughts and prayers."..snipped

Unfortunately expect the pariahs to descend on this sole inheritor with brain damage now. What a mess.

Is Bob Geldof going to write a song about this one?
(Sad, very sad, and I hope she does not end up brain damaged).

Doctors have advised pulling the plug and ending life support, as they say there is no hope.

Bobby and family not ready, are placing their faith in God and miracles.

What a mess, terrifically sad.

(Not even going to mention that 'interesting' injuries have lead police to question the boyfriend.)

Please don't tell me Bobbi Kristina is going to end up like Jahi McMathis, or whatever that poor girl's name was (I'm blanking at the moment except for the first name), and be kept on life support when she's clearly brain dead and not going to be responding to treatment.

I feel for her family, I really do; but if the doctors are saying she's brain dead, then keeping her alive artificially is just... wrong, and even cruel, in my opinion.

I would just say that a lot of people at the top of the entertainment industry appear to try or do illegal drugs and/or alcohol. I suspect that this is related to the continued stress of the requirement to have that next movie, or next album successful, coupled with long down times and a lot of money. Plus exposure to other people with the same problem, and access to the substances. In fact many people in "day-to-day" life also have used (or use) illegal drugs and excessive alcohol. There are people on this very forum who have admitted to problems with alcohol, and there are probably more who haven't shared this.

Although I do not have these particular problems myself, people who I do know personally have them. I don't understand emotionally completely (who would think that trying crack would work out well?) but I try not to judge them. It is a common, but not universal, human failing. I only hope that we continue to make medical progress to allow individuals to more easily back out of any addictions when they are ready to do so.
