The new Greek Government has announced it is opposed to any sanctions against Russia.
Not surprised. But they are going to be surprised when they find out that Russia proabably cannot afford to bail them out either.....

Probably? Greek bailout was over 270 billion euros. Russian forex reserves are about 330 billion or so.

There's no way Russia is bailing them out.

It could be just a negotiation (extortion) tactics for the EU.

I think CE is opposed to any criticism of the Great Humanitarian leader Putin ,period.

I'm sure those who imagine every non-Israel-hating internet commentator to be paid hasbara must be furiously outraged about the Kremlin's massive army of mercenary internet frauds.

In other news, Ukraine is invading Russia:

the founder of the Ukrainian sociological company Research & Branding Group said:
According to the Federal Migration Service there are 2 million 430 thousand citizens of Ukraine now in Russia, including 1 million 172 thousand men of military age.

They aren't coming as soldiers, but fleeing from being used as cannon fodder, though.

Yesterday an ultimatum to Yats and Right Sektor leader Yarosh to stop the murder of residents of Donbass, issued by the hacker group CyberBerkut, expired. They published a bunch of documents they say they took directly from Yarosh's personal computer, exposing what they say is criminal activity like looting businesses. And they shut down Yats' website. Still offline as of this post. More to come? See here.

Feces are flying around and there is a high chance they will start impacting fans.

Pro-Russian separatist leader Alexander Zakharchenko has announced plans to recruit 100,000 men, as fighting with Ukrainian forces intensifies.

It's likely a pathetic attempt to cover for a new wave of brownshirts (in green) that will come from Russia to push Ukrainian forces back.

Sometimes even I am still surprised about the blatancy of the propaganda. Was just informed by a watchdog blog about a piece that aired yesterday on one of the two main evening news shows on public German TV, which I don't watch but have to pay for. About the recent events in Uglegorsk. It shows the evacuation of the poor residents and suggests that they are fleeing from advancing "pro-russian fighters" who also destroyed the city by heavy shelling before. Basically raw film material with the known pre$$titute babbling her script over it. I wouldn't be surprised if there have been similar pieces on the BBC, etc. Well, here is a short video with English subtitles in which the people shown are actually allowed to speak and tell what happened to them, and who is evacuating them...

For context, here's the latest propaganda map by Comical Andriy and cohorts. In the center, just north-west of the MH17 crash site, you see an area controlled by Ukraine reaching far inside "rebel" territory. That's titled Debal'tseve on the map, where two important roads cross and the Ukie Army is fortified since many months, against the Minsk agreement btw, with around 8000 man apparently. One goal of the "rebel" offensive to stop the shelling of their cities is to surround the place and form one of their infamous "cauldrons". On the western border of that to-form cauldron is Uglegorsk, named "Vuhlehirs'k" on the map (Ukrainian, you know).

What happened is that the "rebels" approached the place, where, as the residents tell you in the video, a group of National Guard fighters (these are mostly unsavvy characters formed out of the Maidan gangs) was using the orphanage as their headquarters to control the town, treating the residents "like prisoners". The cowards fled to Devaltsevo from which Ukie artillery shredded the place, hoping to hit some "rebels" or whatever they were thinking. "Rebels" took over and started to evacuate the people from their ex-town.

Apperently the "cauldron" is now almost closed and they are trying to negotiate a surrender, with limited but some success so far.

The pre$$itutes in the guardian have an article about Ukraine.

Welcome to the most corrupt nation in Europe

The Guardian and indeed the BBC do not shy away from pointing out the problems in Ukraine. However they also point out that this crisis is fanned by Russia.

A good article in the LA Times

http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-79580902/

Knowing that Putin is similar to many 20th century dictators is not very useful or even interesting. He does, however, have one trait that sets him apart from the rest. History's dictators have generally tried to convince themselves and others that they were good people fighting the good fight. But Putin has no positive spin for his aggression — or his actions in general.

The political culture Putin has created in Russia is based on the assumption that the world is rotten to the core.

This was first evident in the way Putin talked about corruption. In his official autobiography, published in 2000, Putin told a joke in which President Carter and Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev compare notes: Both are embezzling, but Brezhnev embezzles twice as much, blatantly. This is the line Putin's officials have taken in response to all accusations of graft over the last 14 years: Corruption is endemic to all governments; Russian corruption is just less hypocritical.

The same goes for Russia's treatment of minorities and political protesters, as well as violations of international law: Putin and his officials are always quick to point out that Western countries are also imperfect on these issues. More than a rhetorical device, this is an expression of the Putin world view: He believes that all governments would like to jail their opponents and invade their neighbors, but most political leaders, most of the time, lack the courage to act on these desires.

No it isn't a good article, it's the usual blame-Putin-for-eyerything boneheaded pap that passes for "analysis" while hiding an agenda.

Here's a good article about the current situation (which touches on the agenda in the detail it deserves - not much): Peace, Victory, or Doomsday? Ukraine's prospects for 2015

As to the question about "self-destructive personalities" asked there, I recently learned that Turchinov, the butt-ugly creep who played president before Porky was "elected" and is now heading the National Security and Defense Council, is a baptist of the rapture-ready kind, a pastor to boot. Which is another worrying detail in this mess.

On a related note, various news agencies on both sides have noted that a Russian woman, Svetlana Davydova, has been released from prison prior to her trial for treason. Ms. Davydova is accused of treason for allegedly calling the Ukrainian Embassy and telling them that the army base near where she lives (Vyazama) was empty of troops and that she suspected them of being in the Ukraine. The Russia Times is also reporting it.

I will be the first to admit that sending details of troop movements to a foreign government is often considered to be treasonous, especially if the two governments are at war, but the facts as reported by the Russia Times beg the question:

If the Russian soldiers are not in the Ukraine, as the Russian government claims, why should she be charged for saying they are?

I'm not sure how the question if the information she provided is true changes the act, and you write she was released from prison. Anyway, if the claims of Kiev and NATO were even remotely true, there would be much better evidence than tea leaves reading like that.

In other news Kerry is in Kiev, Merkel and Hollande are visiting tomorrow and then fly to Moscow, and the Hryvnia is in rapid free fall.
