Merged Bigfoot follies

I agree. And a human Marine sniper in a ghillie suit that stands still looks exactly like a human Marine sniper in a ghillie suit that isn't moving.

But the issue is trying to separate both from their surroundings as both tend to use their surroundings to remain unseen.

To argue neither can do this is fruitless as even if you dismiss Bigfoot as myth, the Marine sniper is not myth and they have certainly proven they can go unseen in the field.
Chris B.

Does bigfoot turn white when it snows?

<snip>

At some point, every bigfoot needs to break cover too. They need to eat, poop, mate, fight, hunt, gather, give birth, die, dig those super-deep graves for each other that keep the dead ones from ever being found (even as fossils), etc.

<snip>

Don't forget that they also need to use trees to block paths, and build stick structures in relatively open areas. That's a lot of moving around and most likely making a lot of noise.
Hmmm, maybe the tree knocking is actually 'foots cutting down trees at night.

The only thing in the world that Bigfoot fears is scientific confirmation. For that, they have succeeded in avoiding with 100% success.

People talk about there being no bodies or no bones or fossils. But Bigfoot goes way beyond that because there are no hairs or cells or DNA in any form for humans to acquire.

Bigfoot knows what scientific confirmation is, and it avoids that with 100% accuracy. It is no wonder that many people regard it as a supernatural thing.

If Bigfoot exists at all, it is almost certainly supernatural.

Bigfoot stays ahead of our science because he is our Elder Teacher and has given us science.

I didn't see it easily. I knew it (or at least something) was there because I saw some moving leaves/ branches when we were 20 or 30 metres away. I'm pretty good in the bush compared with most, but I am utterly useless compared with the stuff that lives there.

Look, Chris, this whole game is getting silly. If you really wanted to catch a bigfoot, you would string a 20 foot high net around a wood on a peninsular (or valley), then get a whole group of people and a pack of dogs at the other end of the peninsular (or valley). You would then beat loudly and in a line, driving all wildlife before you into the net. You would then shoot one of the BF as it tried to climb the net, and present your corpse to science.

You don't want to do this because you don't want to come up empty handed, without any sort of excuse.

Bolded mine.

That's a plan. It'd probably work on most animals that can't reason as is but with some adjustments to include things that can think and reason, it might work.

Personally, I'd like to have enough people to be able to surround an area where the creatures were, but still be within arms length of each other. Then move in, everyone/everything to the center.
When everyone meets in the middle, Presto there's the Bigfoot.

Unfortunately, I'm not a billionaire like Bill Gates, so I'm unable to bear the cost of such an operation.

You're wrong if you think I don't want to capture one alive. It's just a tall order to even see one much less capture it. I wouldn't physically intervene to stop someone from shooting one, but I would not be the one to pull the trigger. I know my limitations for a good night's sleep. Chris B.

If you and other Footers put 1/100th of the effort into catching figboot as you do into coming up with excuses as to why you just can't catch the 10 foot tall ape...

... well you still wouldn't have caught one since they don't exist but still.

Come on, Chris. You're phoning it in. What is worse, admitting to the BLAARG or actually being so obtuse as to equate the centuries'-long evasion of modern science by an entire species to the ability of a professional sniper to remain hidden from his quarry for a few hours or days?
Admitting to pretending to believe is worse. Actually, you shouldn't call it worse. Admitting to pretending is like "suicide by cop". It is the end of your hobby as a Bigfooter.

If you say that you are only pretending to believe then other Bigfooters won't want to talk to you or trust you.

Admitting it is The End.

I don't in any way want to seem to be supporting the unsupportable, but you are wrong on this, and Chris is right. Take humans into the wild and they are universally useless, particularly compared with the wildlife. You can walk on foot through the densest game areas of Africa and see virtually nothing. Stuff knows you are coming well before you can see it. I've seen rhino, a quarter of a mile away, turn and flee when someone gets silently out of a car, and rhinos can't see 10 feet in front of them. A 3 day walk through the Kafue national park last year resulted in the sighting of a few birds, and a family of warthogs way off in the distance, running away.

So, the point of going into the woods may well be to see, hear and experience nature, but nature is an awful lot better at it than you.

In all other respects, Chris' explanations are without merit, but on this particular point, he is right.

I disagree that humans are useless in the wild, as you say, and oblivious to the wild, as Chris says.

I don't disagree that animals are better at spotting humans than humans are at spotting animals but that was not what I was replying to anyway.

It was just a joke.

Yes, everyone has a favorite anecdote about the thing they didn't see in the woods, until they did see it. (Mine? Hen turkey on a nest.)

Yes, the average American schmo could walk past a stationary Liberace in the woods and be none the wiser.

But . . . like Mike and Chris, many people who do spend their time in the woods and who do develop keen powers of observation and learn some woodcraft - none of whom has ever collected so much as a toenail clipping of a bigfoot - would be much more likely to detect a big, stationary animal, rhinestones notwithstanding. Heck, if you know the trick that I know, you too could walk right up to a wolf spider in the grass having spotted it from 50m away.

Of course, hiding and seeking is silly as all get-out. For one, the important thing would not be how many bungling city people in 2015 would be clueless about the stationary bigfoot in their midst, it would be the professional market gunners and trappers from centuries of old who would've seen those bigfoots, heard those snapping twigs, etc. and planted a musket ball right between the eyes of one of them boogers. The other - so hilariously downplayed by Chris when it was brought up - is that ol' footy-foo-foo's oft-described stank would betray his position so readily. That was some of the most emphatic bigfooty-lore backpedaling I think I've ever seen on this quest!

You know Shrike, if you take the time to read the reports for yourself, you'll find some report an odor and some don't. Easy peasy. So if you ever walk up on old big and hairy someday, he may be stinky or not. Chris B.

Why would a Bigfoot even want to or need to stand still? Nothing bad ever happens to them no matter what they do.

This is what I want to know, also.

In the Figbooters mythology do Figboots have any natural predators the would need to fear?

I mean what exactly is the 10 foot tall ape-man that can bend iron bars than disappear like a ninja into the night freezing in fear of?

Dude, I reckon it's dinosaurs. What else can a 9 foot monster wood ape be afraid of? Bigfoot is pretty stupid, though. The "freezing" thing doesn't work. T-rex will still smell them. That's why there's no bodies, or anything. Think about it. It's the only logical answer.

Some mermaid reports have them with scales, and some not. Some with breasts, some not. If you took the time to read them.

Of course I've read the reports and noticed that, Chris. What are you suggesting, that only the bigfoots that don't stink adopt your ridiculous "stand like a statue" strategy? What do they do, sniff their pits first to make an instant decision about whether they're mild enough to evade human nostrils if they stand still?

Hint: When you invent bigfooty crap, logical flow from A to B doesn't get you very far. You need to consider B to C, and if B to C makes no sense, then your A to B isn't going to fly.

Shrike, I'm not "inventing bigfooty crap". They can blend into their surroundings whether they stink or not.

What I was pointing out is that the idea they can't hide because of their smell is flawed.
Chris B.

I've never seen a mermaid and I'm not interested in looking for one as I'm skeptical such a creature ever existed.
Chris B.

You still don't get that you can't start throwing out attributes (to say nothing of inconsistent attributes) for a creature that you have utterly failed to provide even a scrap of real evidence actually exists, especially to serve as nothing more than a socialist social pleading copout as to why you can't provide evidence.

I could take every argument you've made and just as easily prove a dragon lives in my garage.

But then if Bigfoots don't exist it means that the hillbillies are woo. But the hillbillies tell us that they are not woo. So I guess if the hillbillies are telling the truth about themselves then Bigfoot is supernatural or maybe paranormal.

Believe these two things together:

1) Hillbillies are telling the truth.
2) Bigfoot is supernatural.

I think these two things would be more accurate.

1) Hillbillies may be telling the truth about cryptids like bigfoot and panthers.
2) Bigfoot is a great ape as yet untyped with no supernatural or paranormal abilities.

Don't forget that they also need to use trees to block paths, and build stick structures in relatively open areas. That's a lot of moving around and most likely making a lot of noise.

I'm skeptical of the tree knocking, but they do move around, hence the sighting reports. Chris B.
