Merged Bigfoot follies

I have long held suspicions about this one tree in the park near my house. It is almost to tree like in visage. :eye-poppi

A Bigfoot that stands still is going to look exactly like a Bigfoot that isn't moving.

I agree. And a human Marine sniper in a ghillie suit that stands still looks exactly like a human Marine sniper in a ghillie suit that isn't moving.

But the issue is trying to separate both from their surroundings as both tend to use their surroundings to remain unseen.

To argue neither can do this is fruitless as even if you dismiss Bigfoot as myth, the Marine sniper is not myth and they have certainly proven they can go unseen in the field.

Before we all get too cynical about standing still and appearing invisible, let me tell you that I have been 5 metres (still, not moving) from a full grown elephant, in relatively thin scrubby bush, and no passengers in my vehicle saw it until it swished an ear. Along with para-whatsit this shows that our own eyes (and brain) are never to be trusted.

The obvious and utter distinction with the BF stuff is that humans have actually managed to not only see and photograph elephants occasionally, but have even managed to bring in the odd dead one, thereby......... you know.........proving they exist.

The ZEN of Bigfoot:

"You can only see a Bigfoot if they want you to see them"

I don't think that's the case. I think sometimes they make a mistake. It doesn't take much to remain hidden from the average human though. Most humans are oblivious to their surroundings when in the woods. Quick to dismiss a sound or movement as "nothing" and continue their activity. Seldom investing more than a quick glance around, yea, I think "oblivious" would be the best descriptor of the average human in the woods. Chris B.

Until they have to move, as this sad story relates.

Come on, Chris. You're phoning it in. What is worse, admitting to the BLAARG or actually being so obtuse as to equate the centuries'-long evasion of modern science by an entire species to the ability of a professional sniper to remain hidden from his quarry for a few hours or days?

Mike , would you say you saw the elephant in the brush easily because you had past experience and knew what to look for?

Also, regarding your passengers/guests, did this particular group stand out from others you have taken? Or do you find people have difficulty picking out animals that to you appear to be in plain sight? Chris B.

From the link: "In its Web posting, Ansar al Sunna said it had killed the marines in a "compact ambush," as they walked in the Jazeera neighborhood north of the city."

This is a sad story, but doesn't relate to the comparison. If a group of 6 Bigfoot marched into town, I suspect they'd have the same ending as the snipers.

I admit it's unlikely for a creature such as Bigfoot to remain hidden from modern science as long as they have, but they have not remained completely hidden as a whole because sightings do happen. Seeing one and collecting a type specimen are very different tasks though. Chris B.

This made me giggle. The whole point of going into the woods is to see, hear, and experience nature!

"Hey honey lets take the kids for hike. Remember everyone keep your eyes down, hands to yourself, and ignore mother nature. Isn't it great to get out of the city and ignore the country side?"

Why would a Bigfoot even want to or need to stand still? Nothing bad ever happens to them no matter what they do.

Right, at some point every sniper needs to break cover. In that case, they were ambushed.

At some point, every bigfoot needs to break cover too. They need to eat, poop, mate, fight, hunt, gather, give birth, die, dig those super-deep graves for each other that keep the dead ones from ever being found (even as fossils), etc.

You know who else were probably really good at blending into their surroundings First Blood-style? Native American warriors. I wonder if any white guys ever shot one of them . . .

It isn't just humans that cause bigfoot to freeze. Any other animal creates the same instinctual response in them. In fact bigfoot can only move in the presence of other bigfoot. It's a survival mechanism.

This can make foraging and general daily movement quite a challenge for them. During peak migration times bigfoot have had to stand still for days on end less a moose or flying goose spot him. This can cause severe cases of constipation and UTI.

I don't in any way want to seem to be supporting the unsupportable, but you are wrong on this, and Chris is right. Take humans into the wild and they are universally useless, particularly compared with the wildlife. You can walk on foot through the densest game areas of Africa and see virtually nothing. Stuff knows you are coming well before you can see it. I've seen rhino, a quarter of a mile away, turn and flee when someone gets silently out of a car, and rhinos can't see 10 feet in front of them. A 3 day walk through the Kafue national park last year resulted in the sighting of a few birds, and a family of warthogs way off in the distance, running away.

So, the point of going into the woods may well be to see, hear and experience nature, but nature is an awful lot better at it than you.

In all other respects, Chris' explanations are without merit, but on this particular point, he is right.

Mike , would you say you saw the elephant in the brush easily because you had past experience and knew what to look for?.......

I didn't see it easily. I knew it (or at least something) was there because I saw some moving leaves/ branches when we were 20 or 30 metres away. I'm pretty good in the bush compared with most, but I am utterly useless compared with the stuff that lives there.

Look, Chris, this whole game is getting silly. If you really wanted to catch a bigfoot, you would string a 20 foot high net around a wood on a peninsular (or valley), then get a whole group of people and a pack of dogs at the other end of the peninsular (or valley). You would then beat loudly and in a line, driving all wildlife before you into the net. You would then shoot one of the BF as it tried to climb the net, and present your corpse to science.

You don't want to do this because you don't want to come up empty handed, without any sort of excuse.

In the Figbooters mythology do Figboots have any natural predators the would need to fear?

I mean what exactly is the 10 foot tall ape-man that can bend iron bars than disappear like a ninja into the night freezing in fear of?

The only thing in the world that Bigfoot fears is scientific confirmation. For that, they have succeeded in avoiding with 100% success.

People talk about there being no bodies or no bones or fossils. But Bigfoot goes way beyond that because there are no hairs or cells or DNA in any form for humans to acquire.

Bigfoot knows what scientific confirmation is, and it avoids that with 100% accuracy. It is no wonder that many people regard it as a supernatural thing.

If Bigfoot exists at all, it is almost certainly supernatural.

But then if Bigfoots don't exist it means that the hillbillies are woo. But the hillbillies tell us that they are not woo. So I guess if the hillbillies are telling the truth about themselves then Bigfoot is supernatural or maybe paranormal.

Believe these two things together:

1) Hillbillies are telling the truth.
2) Bigfoot is supernatural.
