Merged Bigfoot follies

LTC8K6, the grinch reference must have been in a different thread. I missed it I guess.

I do agree that reports of odors with sightings are common, but there are also many reports/encounters listed without any odor mentioned as well. So, for them to be given away by their smell won't work for every encounter, only some.

Of course not every foul odor in Nature is Bigfoot, but I have spoken with several hunters who have absolutely no belief in these creatures whatsoever and many report to have smelled something dead or foul/rotten in an area without finding any obvious source of the smell (deer carcass etc.)

Are you arguing that no hunter has ever reported to have seen or took a shot at a Bigfoot?

One aspect of what I call being "educated on the subject" would require a study of legit sighting reports. A quick review would have already answered the argument you propose.

Hunters don't normally purposely shoot things walking on two legs. Of course there are many reports of hunting accidents every year with hunters being shot and killed accidentally. But how many hunters are purposely/intently killed? A few? Any?

Anyway, if you'll do the research you'll find the hunter reports/stories usually end up with "It looked too much like a man to shoot it." Or the hunter was afraid someone may have been playing a joke and didn't want to risk the chance of killing someone over stupidity.

Another aspect of what I call being "educated on the subject" would be trying to find the answer to how they have remained under the radar as long as they have. Now of course one could take the easy route and say "it's because they don't exist" but that is not the answer as they certainly do exist. So we have to get away from the quick dismissal frame of mind and try to determine how they evade detection. The answer is they're elusive, and they're very good at it. More study and application of "woodsmanship" would be useful when trying to determine how they do what they do and that's yet another aspect.

Repeating this argument over and over again doesn't make it any more convincing.

Not one bigfoot (or part of one) has ever been brought forth in the history of NA, despite millions of man hours spent hunting, hunting that began long before the invention of blaze orange to keep the nimrods from shooting each other. The First Nation hunters and Europeans were not dilletantes, but hunting for their very lives and livelihoods. They would have had no compunction harvesting footie because "he walked on two legs"; they would have reduced him to possession and figured what to do with him later. There would have been rugs, and skulls and tooth necklaces and who knows what. Beaver hats were all the rage once and millions were killed to satisfy that market, odd as that idea seems today.

As with other predators, footie would have been in conflict with humans and that would have been that. I don't care about stories depicting hunters encountering ole foo, I'm interested in ole foo itself and the fact that there would necessarily be physical remains for us to examine given the natural history (which includes human history) of North America. There are no physical remains, period.

All story, no monkey. Ever.

I want to address this gem separately. A few times you've posted that you are not here to convince anyone of footie's existence, which is a good thing because so far, your arguments have fallen far short anyway.

Thing is, you can't then assert certitude of existence and get away with it. Put up or shut up. And by putting up I mean physical evidence that can be tested. Not stories, not plaster casts, but physical evidence. Something no footer has ever brought to the table.

I'll be waiting over here.

BTW: I'll take the "easy route" if it's the correct route, thanks very much.

That's the difference between me and the rest of you so-called skeptics. I only focus on the sighting reports that are legit. That's a lot harder. I'll let you know when I find one.

Question for you. Is there anyone you know personally that you would take at their word if something extraordinary happened to them and they told you about it. No other evidence, just their word. Maybe your mother, a best friend, clergy, surgeon general, anyone?

Yet when the same people report a sighting of a Black Panther or Bigfoot, there seems to be quite a bit of dispute. But , let's be honest about the dispute thing, most Hill Folk are immediately branded as liars if they report:
Mountain Lions, Black Panthers, Wolves and most especially Bigfoot. Isn't that odd?

It's not an accusation, it's a simple statement of what would be required to see something in Nature. You don't need to travel 100 miles into dense Alaskan wilderness to see animals. One is not required to be Bear Grylls to go outdoors. All that's required is a hike into the woods. You guys really need to take the chips off your shoulders.

Nature is a magazine. Did you mean to say "nature?"

Are you arguing that no hunter has ever reported to have seen or took a shot at a Bigfoot?
Lots of people report lots of stuff. People "report" that they communed with Jesus, or that the virgin mary on their toast cried tears made from holy water.

Question for you. Is there anyone you know personally that you would take at their word if something extraordinary happened to them and they told you about it. No other evidence, just their word. Maybe your mother, a best friend, clergy, surgeon general, anyone?
Goalpost moving, anyone? "Something extra-ordinary" isn't always a smelly 9 foot ape running around Chicago's suburbs.

Short answer - no. If my mother, priest or surgeon said that they saw a UFO / bigfoot / chupacabra / whatever, I'd dismiss it, since obviously, those things don't exist.

Define extraordinary. If my mom told me that she dropped a penny and it landed on its edge, I might believe her. If she told me she saw a bigfoot I would not.

With the proliferation of camera phones, everything imaginable has ended up on video, except a bigfoot. Wonder why...

It's gonna be hilarious watching Woo Slingers jump through hoops trying to continue to justify their nonsense in a world where practically everyone has a camera on them essentially all the time.

Seen anyone below the age of 35? Seen their reaction to anything even remotely out of the ordinary?

I can online and see a photo of a giant squid, the surface of Mars, and every gluten free organic free trade artisan sandwich that every Hipster in Seattle ate last year but the 10 foot tall lynchpin species of man- ape... yeah that one still eludes us.

Are you arguing that no hunter has ever reported to have seen or took a shot at a Bigfoot?

Are you arguing that no one ever claimed to see a dragon? Or a mermaid?

Why would any close relation be any less prone to error, cognitive biases, memory failures and fabrication that the rest of humankind?

Bigfoot does not exist as far as I am concerned.

It requires a lot more than a good story to get past that.

Hell if I personally saw a figboot I'd probably think the more likely explanation was that I was somehow mistaken given the absolute unlikeness of one existing.

Not all sightings report an odor. A little homework sinks this argument quickly.
Chris B.

Chris, it is posts like this that frustrate me when discussing this with you. You try to slip in little things like "legit" sighting reports, and statements like bigfoot certainly do exist. There is no such thing as a legit sighting report and bigfoots most certainly do not exist. Now if you have strong evidence to the contrary, i.e. more than anecdotes and leaves, then please present that evidence. Otherwise, I have no wish to grant you your premise and engage in fanciful discussion like how does bigfoot evade detection. That is nonsense. That is playing the BLAARG with you. That conversation is essentially fleshing out a bestiary entry for an imaginary animal. Game play, nothing more.

No, your premise is not granted and you will need to do more than just assert that bigfoot exists before we can get anywhere near a conversation mulling over alleged footie traits.

I made a similar statement at the Bigfoot Forums and folks there just pretty much wrote me off as nuts. #irony

Yeah that's the problem with appeals to personal experience. A random sampling of one doesn't become statistically meaning just because I am the one.

I don't like calling them BLAARGers. It's a bad/awkward acronym.

I think we should call them: Bigfoot Liars Using Moronic Pretend Knowledge to Incite Naive Skeptics

aka "BLUMPKINS"

Do you not understand which forum you are on?
