Merged Bigfoot follies

A guy in Munfordville KY claimed to have seen a Wolf and everyone said "There is no wolf population in KY" So he shot one and said "Now what?".
If we're thinking of the same wolf, the "now what" is that the wolf was examined and determined to have been a captive animal. Thus the "no population" stuff still applies.

Recently, a lady in Paris KY said she saw a Mountain Lion, but again, everyone said "There are no Mountain Lions in KY" So , she called a Wildlife Official and he shot it, then turned it over for autopsy.
Please direct us to whomever it was that said there were no mountain lions in Kentucky. I'm willing to bet a shoo-fly pie that any official statements on the status of mountain lions in Kentucky offer caveats such as no breeding lions and the acknowledgment that many people keep them in captivity so an escapee is always a distinct possibility.

The problem is that the "hillbillies" and their ilk, either through ignorance or agenda, love to take these stories out of context to make anyone in a position of authority look like an idiot. A non-discriminating public falls for the ruse and we end up with ridiculous crap like the rumors that the Pennsylvania Game Commission trucked coyotes into the state to reduce the deer herd.

You're a smart guy Chris, and I think you know better than to perpetuate this kind of tripe. At least here you'll be called on it.

Lot's a bigfoot attacks while grilling in KY?
Didn't say that.
They also see things that aren't there at all. Based on nonsense, hoohaw and legend. Of course that applies to all humankind.
But along with the hooha, some gems surface on occasion.

Ah, but what I was addressing was even though some animals are thought to no longer be in these areas, sometimes they are.

So if you happen to be flipping a burger in your backyard and a Mountain Lion attacks, you can either deal with it or close your eyes, click your heels three times and tell yourself "There are no active breeding populations here." Maybe it will go away given it shouldn't be there?

And still, no one has shot a bigfoot and said "Now what?"
Not as proven yet, I agree. Chris B.

Yes, and that's a fact that no one disputes. How about a little fire, Scarecrow?

Yet when the same people report a sighting of a Black Panther or Bigfoot, there seems to be quite a bit of dispute. But , let's be honest about the dispute thing, most Hill Folk are immediately branded as liars if they report:
Mountain Lions, Black Panthers, Wolves and most especially Bigfoot. Isn't that odd?

KY has all four, regardless of how they arrived here or whether there's a viable breeding population or not.

Yeah, just shoot a bigfoot and say "Now what?".

I bet you get some answers.
I agree. That's certainly one way to end the mystery though I'd rather see one brought in that had expired from natural causes rather than lead poisoning. Chris B.

Not odd at all. It's a plausible explanation, though deluded and mistaken are also.

KY has all four . . .
Bald assertion.

The only mystery is that you fail to understand that if ole foo existed, this would have happened long ago, before any of our antecedents set foot on this continent. If footie existed, we wouldn't be having this little convo.

Break character once in awhile already.

So what's the BF-related argument here - that someone might see a BF despite there being no breeding population, because one might have escaped from captivity?

This Hillbilly needs some help translating this one, from BFF and everyone's favorite DWA!

"Yeah, this hyper-insistence on hyper-empiricism is the polar opposite weirdo extreme of paranormalism.

Sasquatch is real, simple as that. All one has to do is evaluate the probability of any of the scenarios that would have to be true!!!!! for the comprehensive false positive (which can be proven, skeptics, might want to get on that) to be the case. Plain and simple: NONE OF THEM ARE HAPPENING. One might as well believe in fairies as in any scenario in which sasquatch isn't a real animal living right now in a forest not too too far from you.

Period."

Maybe he's still celebrating!?!

To paraphrase Clark W. Griswold "What are you, ********** in the head?"

Pretty much covers the DWA-blather.

It seems to me the most common descriptor here would tend to be deluded from a choice of those two.

Bald assertion.
It's true I can't glean biological evidence from sightings. But you could also say all sightings of previously unknown animals were merely bald assertions before the first type specimen was collected.

The only mystery is that you fail to understand that if ole foo existed, this would have happened long ago, before any of our antecedents set foot on this continent. If footie existed, we wouldn't be having this little convo.
I do fail to understand how they have gone so long without a type specimen being collected and turned over to the proper authorities.

Break character once in awhile already.

And become who? I'm sure they exist without a doubt. I'm still the same KY Hill Billy I always was it's just that I can't unsee Bigfoot to comfort those who cannot comprehend such a creature does indeed exist.

So what's the BF-related argument here - that someone might see a BF despite there being no breeding population, because one might have escaped from captivity?

I suppose the gist is that sometimes Hill Billies report seeing odd things and sometimes they're absolutely correct, regardless of reason or how unlikely. Chris B.

You're not trying very hard.

I'm sure many of the mermaid witnesses trotted out the same palaver. It's similarly unmoving. And unconvincing.

2015 is the year of the Bigfoot Denialist. Belief is a stillborn baby, and Skeptism just isn't cutting it.

I wonder how many sighting reports are submited by "local" folks and how many are from weekend warriors, urbanoids that have never seen an owl...

Sure, there's all that debate about honest mistakes vs fabrications. MY SWAG is most of the reports are from those people in cammo suits, carrying one too many gizmos and gadgets, maximum one or two clicks from a tar road, second-growth woods, cabins nearby, already predisposed to see bigfoots...

Sure, they'll say they are über outdoorspeople at a pristine old forest far far away from civilization. And buy from Meldrum some footprint casts.

Me too. A guy in Munfordville KY claimed to have seen a Wolf and everyone said "There is no wolf population in KY" So he shot one and said "Now what?".

Hillbillies seem to be finding things that shouldn't be there. These "stories" even as odd or outlandish as they may be, seem to be based on fact.

Are you implying that Hillbillies in Kentucky have been shooting bigfoots too?

Chris, words mean stuff. You should read them and respond in context.

You quoted my post which was a response to dlorde as to how it's related to Bigfoot. I think it was right on.

I think you're probably wanting to go down the road of something like comparing sightings of cryptids to sightings of known animals being different though.

If that's the case I'll agree with you. I've seen more Bigfoot creatures than Mountain Lions and Wolves combined here in KY. Chris B.

The only historical account I can think of would be Daniel Boone, but that's often explained away as a tall tale. Funny how his tall tale of a 10 foot tall bipedal hairy beast preceded modern Bigfoot by a couple hundred years though. Chris B.
