Bachok MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said Putrajaya should consider investing the RM30 million set aside to establish an Al Quran printing centre in a theme park, which would serve the dual purpose of drawing tourists and spreading the teachings of Islam.

“In Malaysia, we already have Legoland, water theme parks like Sunway and Tambun. The time has come for us to bring the world’s population to Malaysia to learn the Al Quran in the form of an Al Quran Theme Park Malaysia,” he said in Parliament when debating the 2015 Budget.

“I propose that this Al Quran theme park be divided into 114 parts just like the surah in the Al Quran. It will become the largest tourism and Al Quran learning destination in the world,” the PAS lawmaker added.

Ever have one of those moments where you're not sure if you're reading a real article, or something from the Onion?

How strict are Malasian muslims with the whole "don't depict living creatures" thing? A theme park depicting stories from the Qur'an with only geomteric shapes could look very trippy.

It's not, really. Well, except for scale, perhaps. And the "we have a Legoland, why not a Qur'anland!" argument, which kinda made me facepalm.

A 12 foot Lego Mohammed at the entrance?

Fascinating.
After reading part of the park's description, which included "guards" of hell stabbing hell's inhabitants with spears, my first thought was are there not some Buddahist for whom being stabbed with a spear is preferable to stabbing a human with a spear. But the blog explained that the better souls (the ones' for whom tortuting others is more hellish than being tortured by others) do not come to this place - it is one's the weight of one's own karma that can sink a soul into this place of temporary, but intense, pain and anguish.

Buddhist Purgatory would be a better term then Buddhist Hell.
But a great many BUddhist are horrified by that park, saying the descriptions of about a physical hell were symbolic and an allegory, not meant to be taken literarly.

See, that part makes total sense to me. I suspect it takes a sepcial kind of affluent, secular Western snowflake, to imagine that Lego are more deserving of a theme park than the Koran.
