So, the setup. As you all know a few days ago there was a shooting in Canada. It kind of made the news and everything. During the coverage of this event swimsuit model and part time sports radio host Chrissy Teigen wrote the tweet I wish I had thought of.

active shooting in Canada, or as we call it in america, wednesday.

It was a great little poke at how here in America we were faced with the decision to just accept lots of massacres or give up our guns and we made the eminently sensible decision to be pro massacre. So now we just have to learn and deal with the constant mass shootings as the price we pay to keep our precious pop pop toys around.

But would the massacre lovers.....er I mean gun lovers of the internet let Chrissy point out this obvious truth without retaliation? Of course not. Being the backwards social troglodytes that they clearly are they immediately decided that the only possible proper response was to show the uppity pretty woman that having an opinion that our society is too violent obviously means she must be met with threats of violence.

Then, not to be left out of this nice little hatred and idiocy bukkake Fox News jumped into the shallow end of the pool of ignorance ejaculate and promptly hit their head. Host Andr....nah we won't pretend that this hostoid is worthy of an actual name. Anyways this thing made the following remarks.

“Chrissy Teigen is known for, obviously, her lovely bottom, and her food Instagram pictures. She should stick to that.

This is the problem when models start to talk. They play into that dumb model stereotype. Because it’s too soon for her to weigh in. And also, conflate gun control, and crime in America with a global war against radical Islamic jihadism.

She clearly doesn’t know about the radical Islamic threat to the nation, she hasn’t educated herself. When she does stuff like this, you’ve just got to shake your head.”

Yeah, Chrissy, don't you know that being a pretty woman automatically means you aren't allowed to make incisive social commentary? Don't you know that we need to accept having massacres by disturbed Christians lest some Muslim boogeyman massacre us instead? And what about Ebola, Chrissy? Don't you know that we also need to just learn to deal with kingergartners being mass slaughtered to keep that Ebola away! Wait....they didn't say the last bit?

Oh well. Just you wait.

I'm actually quite glad that America is filled to the brim with crazy. It puts my own country, South Africa, into perspective, and we don't seem that far from sane at all.

Keep it up!

Careful Travis, you're not supposed to reveal the end game of the anti-gun people like that. You're supposed to use code words and phrases, like "common sense gun control" and such, and not go right for the total ban that is the real goal. In fact you're supposed to say things like "we don't want to take away your guns" and such other lies.

On the other hand, maybe Travis has his own opinions that are separate from those who you are associating him with.

Which gun control groups have ever opposed total bans? Did Brady oppose the Chicago and DC handgun bans? Do any of Bloomberg's groups support the Heller decision?

It's very obvious what the end game is for these people. At least Travis is honest about it.

It's irrelevant. Travis is not a "gun control group".

Then return the favour and argue with the points he makes rather than trying to tie him to someone he has not declared an affiliation with.

Oh, the irony! You do realize this thread is about people who comment on news stories (some of them trolls) and then applied to the public at large?

Note I didn't do that, I used Brady and Bloomberg as my examples, 2 of the most high-profile anti-gun groups.

But just for ***** and giggles, do you support Japan's gun laws?

What of it?

Does Travis support "Brady and Bloomberg"?

But just for ***** and giggles, do you support Japan's gun laws?

I think that's irrelevant. I am actually largely indifferent to them because gun control is not a big issue in Japan.

What of it?
Odd you accuse me of doing that while telling me to comment on Travis' post in which he actually did what you accuse me of doing.

Does Travis support "Brady and Bloomberg"?
I think the odds of that are good, but has nothing to do with my point.

I think that's irrelevant. I am actually largely indifferent to them because gun control is not a big issue in Japan.
Has there ever been a gun control measure anywhere you felt went too far?

Actually the Brady Campaign supports Heller (and probably McDonald too) because both rulings made it clear that sensible gun laws are Constitutional. Outright bans are prohibited.

Does Bloomberg advocate a total ban on guns? Not that I'm aware of.

Saying that Brady and Bloomberg do want a total ban on guns is just a tactic the gun lobby uses to garner support. As has been demonstrated here, it's a tactic that works. Well, works with people who don't think about things too deeply. Who prefer slogans to ideas. ;)

Travis, get a grip. Fox News has a solid policy against celebrity opinions. It's nothing personal against Teigen, they just don't think being famous is a reason to listen to you opine about things you know nothing about. But in your liberal world, I guess just because you have a famous face means we should care what you think. I'm sure next you'll be telling me that we should be asking Brad Pitt about ISIS. Or Gene Simmons about Ebola epidemiology protocols...

Oh, wait.

http://time.com/3536922/cable-ebola-coverage-story-versus-facts/

The guest on Friday’s Fox News’s panel show Outnumbered gave a damning assessment of the government’s response to Ebola, after a Manhattan doctor who had recently returned from West Africa was diagnosed with Ebola Thursday night. “In point of fact, we are completely unprepared for things like this,” the guest said. “We can’t even take the simple precaution of not letting anybody from a certain part of Africa come into America before you pass a health test. The fact that this doctor and this nurse [in Dallas] were just allowed to run around… is lunacy.”

The guest was Gene Simmons. As in Gene Simmons from the face-painted ’70s rock band KISS.

Fox News doesn't have a problem with celebrities having an opinion outside of their field of knowledge; it is when they have a liberal opinion that causes Fox News to dismiss them...

Nonsense, they filed amicus briefs in both Heller and McDonald urging the court to let the handgun bans in DC and Chicago stand.

Does Bloomberg advocate a total ban on guns? Not that I'm aware of.
He supports "assault gun" bans, the definition of which keeps changing over time, and I've never heard of him opposing any gun law, including the Chicago and DC bans on handguns.

Of course they do, they just know that they have to chip away at gun rights a little at a time. Well maybe not a "total gun ban", Bloomberg will always continue to support the right for the rich and politically connected to have guns. But not the unwashed masses, that will never do!

Nonsense, they filed amicus briefs in both Heller and McDonald urging the court to let the handgun bans in DC and Chicago stand.

They filed briefs because they said both bans -- handgun bans not all guns -- had broad community support. Both laws had been on the books for decades before the Second Amendment Foundation, not a local community group, began action to overturn them. Since the SCOTUS decision the Brady Campaign has said they support Heller, or at least can live with it, because it allows for sensible gun laws to be put in place. From the Brady Campaign:

Justice Scalia’s majority decision in Heller rejected the NRA’s view that the Second Amendment provided a broad right to carry virtually any gun anywhere. Instead, Justice Scalia and the Court went out of their way to caution that the Second Amendment “is not unlimited” and “not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.” Read and learn instead of making stuff up

Well maybe not a "total gun ban", Bloomberg will always continue to support the right for the rich and politically connected to have guns. But not the unwashed masses, that will never do!

The CT Forum is thataway pardner! >>>>

Jim Crow laws had broad support in the communities that passed them too. So do anti-gay marriage laws. But that doesn't override the US Constitution.

They only hang their hat on that to save face, but I don't think Scalia's comment means what the anti-gun groups wish it to mean.

Not a CT when gun bans have already happened, and those groups openly supported them.

Jim Crow laws had broad support in the communities that passed them too. So do anti-gay marriage laws. But that doesn't override the US Constitution.

Except historically the same groups who supported both integration and gay rights also support sensible gun control. Historically the groups who oppose most gun control legislation also opposed passage of civil rights laws and laws protecting the rights of gay people.

They only hang their hat on that to save face, but I don't think Scalia's comment means what the anti-gun groups wish it to mean.

Back to the conspiracy theory.

You got it all wrong, Wildcat--we don't want to ban guns, we want to ban those who won't voluntarily give up their guns from having kids...so you see, it's a right to kids thing not a right to arms things...arms are detached from the body in question (guns don't kill people...) :boggled:

This kind of rhetoric is why I don't pay much attention to anything Travis says.
It sounds like the sanctimonious poop that religious conservatives like to pump out.

Well, the difference is that Travis actually understands the meaning of the word 'hyperbole'--and the poopsters don't ;)

I live for hyperbole. I say, why just have an opinion when you can go full zealot? It certainly is a lot more fun to write.
