iPhone 6 and iOS 8

Yes, iPad2. I have just downloaded 8.0.2 and early indications are good. Not so scratchy or fragile any more.

FB is probably one of the most popular apps I should think so, yes, why not test that one before release?

8.0.2 is a step forward on my iPad 2, but there are still problems. Composing a post will sometimes hang Safari. The Facebook app crashes all the time. The 3G connection seems to disappear after a while, requiring a restart before it shows up again.

Isn't it a bit depressing that you describe that as "a step forward?" ;)

I run 8.0.2 on an iPad 2 as well. Strangely, except some lags from time to time, I do not experience anything that you describe. After some hiccups shortly after installation, mostly related to a lot of apps not being properly updated to work with iOS 8, after getting most of the apps updated, it now runs pretty much as before. Except, as mentioned, for some lag time here and there.

Then again, I don't use the Facebook app, and I don't use 3G connections (I use the thing pretty exclusively at home with my home WiFi).

I get the best results with the following procedure:

1. Back up iOS device to computer using iTunes. Encrypt the backup when you do so.

2. Restore the device with the new OS, wiping it clean.

3. Restore the backup to the device.

4. If you encrypted the backup the restore will not only restore your apps, but your settings and passwords as well.

Just upgrading over an existing install is... Problematic

Thanks. I've never done something like this before with my iPhone5 (8.0.2)

Are all of the steps listed here in proper order and detail? Is the "wiping it clean" a step in itself, or does that happen automatically when you "restore the device with the new OS"?

Restoring the OS wipes it clean in one step. I listed the steps in the order I performed them.

I did however encounter a problem where the music, podcasts and movies didn't sync to my iPhone. It looks like this is a sporadic issue some people are having with the iOS 8 update. There are a number of things people have been doing to fix the problems. From what I can tell, it looks like the process I described results in some sort of corrupted media metabase on the iOS device. I had to delete the music off the iPhone using the data management features before things worked again.

My recommendation to (hopefully) avoid the problem is to disable music, movie, TV and podcast syncing, sync your device and THEN start with Step 1 on my original list.

Thanks. So I will be doing two different restores in sequence?

a) Restore the phone with the new OS.

and then...

b) Restore the phone with the encrypted backup.

Well there's one new thing that I don't like so much but will have to get used to. You know when you double-tap the Home button it displays all open apps which you can swipe away to close. Now it looks like a deck of cards that you pull from. It requires more attention to get the job done.

Also they changed the font on the keyboard (which I'm typing on now) and that causes my unconscious mind to say "wait this is different here".
