I think 20 years is way too much; it's an absurd amount of time. He's already been fired and is looking at 20 in jail.

Nope. I'm very serious; there's an almost psychotic thinking regarding punishment in this country. I am consistent enough that I don't care that it's a (former) cop who did the crime, either.Joking?

Does anyone know how the victim fared? Did he suffer any permanent or crippling injuries as a result of the shooting?
Not so fast.
We need to dig into the victim's past and see if we can paint him as a thug first.

We disagree only on what "severely punished" means.Hardly. Especially when you figure in probation etc it doesn't seem too lengthy at all.
Unjustified shootings should be severely punished.
Maybe, but that should be done in a more up-front manner, rather than pile on charge upon charge, hoping for a 100+ year sentence and knowing it won't turn out to be eight years. Or somesuch like that.Under many cases, I agree. And actually, I might even agree here. But...this guy tried to kill a random person, over an innocent movement. I find that to be far more psychotic than any jail time he may receive-and to be clear, he likely won't serve much time.

From what I understand he'll ultimately be ok.
I can't help but notice the lack of black cops shooting white guy threads. I'm sure it happens though. *shrug*
I watched the video, fully expecting the cop to be completely in the wrong. But the guy did go back into the van quickly, which seems to have precipitated the problem.
OTOH, how could he tell the guy didn't have his seat belt on?
Very glad to hear that there were no significant injuries to the young man involved.
Thank you. I think I got the meaning though.DDT, though fluent, is not a native English speaker, and may simply have misread what you wrote.
I think the word "over-reaction" is quite an understatement. The victim did exactly what the police officer asked, and gets shot for it. The movement wasn't even unexpected for the police officer. This shooting-at-every-movement is insane. If so, I'd still like him to read my post more carefully.
