“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson solves the ISIS situation

On Hannity, no less.

“In this case, you either have to convert them, which I think would be next to impossible — I’m not giving up on them, but I’m just saying either convert them or kill them,” Robertson explained to Hannity. “One or the other.”

Huh. The same tactic radical Islam uses. Beards and religion ftw!

What a ******* idiot.

Just to play devil's advocate here, what else can be done with ISIS (or whatever they're calling themselves these days)? They don't seem too interested in peace or diplomacy, would like to see the entire western world in shambles, and really quite vile and destructive.

Why is killing these people fundamentally any different from putting down a rabid dog?

Because it isn't going to help. We got the Sunni militias to broadly work with us, now they are working with ISIS. So it seems a lot of those who support them are not as hard line as you think, they just were being disenfranchised and so picked up their guns again.

Now if we are talking genocide that might work, but would be a little bit of a hard sell.

Because killing a rabid dog does not help convince other dogs to seek out rabies.

I've said for a long time that the TV medium is fit only for entertainment. The problem isn't Phil Robertson's opinion, it's that Sean Hannity isn't a journalist and Phil Robertson isn't an expert. They're both entertainers and we don't need to take the show any more seriously than the Colbert Report.

What makes you think they'd be satisfied with just the Western world?

I don't think that at all, but it is just a start. I firmly believe that if they were to successfully annihilate everyone they don't like they would turn on themselves. Hell, I think they'll do that long before getting to that point.

I hope next week they get Kim Kardashian's views on Ukraine.

Agreed. It's infotainment masquerading as journalism. And the real motive? :D To sell the products and services of the sponsors who support these programs. As long as these infotainment programs can do that, they're not going away.

Just like Westboro Baptist Church!

If we are going to fight them, we need to ignore the rules of engagement as they have done. Otherwise we are wasting our time letting them get away by running into a mosque for example.

I don't quite see how this Duck guy becoming an anchorite monk and walling himself away to live the rest of his life in absolute silence with no contact with the world will solve any issues about ISIS, but I think it's certainly worth a try and he should totally do that.

Because killing a rabid dog does not help convince other dogs to seek out rabies.

Killing terrorists doesn't help convince others to become terrorists either. How stupid do you think those people are that they respond inversely to incentives? That makes absolutely no sense.
