Howard Phillips that is. He'd be 124 if he weren't unfortunately dead. But...
That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.

What a coincidence - I've just re-read his unicorn letters today.
Equoid creeped me out, I've encountered cone shells when diving. Nasty little buggers.

The Guardian had a piece on Lovecraft (link) and Daonbutes has Lovecraft's work available online here.

I've tried to get into his work, I swear.
I like dark stuff, I think his writing is interesting. I just can't stick with it.

Re-read At The Mountains Of Madness over the winter... One of his more sci-fi flavored tales.

Old HP continues to be influential, The Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer has a definite Lovecraftian flavor about it. (Last book out next month.)

He may be my favorite author. Much of my recreational reading now is based off references from his essay on supernatural horror in literature.

I have his complete works on my Kindle. 'Dagon' grabbed my imagination as a child, and I've re-read his works on a fairly regular basis since.

In order to help bring attention to my plight (I'm being persecuted by CERN as I write) I wrote of my latest battle with the monstrous CERN in the style of Lovecraft. I had to change the narrative a bit after the first post when I underestimated the speed of CERN's minions to have my narrative thrown into humor. Those who understand subtext will understand where I deviated from fact.

I think the opening that was inspired  from Lovecraft really captures the relationship I have with CERN. Lovecraft is wonderful reading and a belated birthday wishes to Lovecraft (I hope this doesn't hurt my standing with Cthulhu).
