Well, if you release a narrative very early, it tends to influence witnesses that haven't given official statements yet.

I'm not sure how releasing an incident report would influence potential witnesses anymore than anything else would. A narrative is gong to get out one way or the other. I think it would have behooved the police to have theirs out front and center from the beginning.

You don't imagine a potential witness seeing a teevee report presenting local authorities account on what took place would sway anyone's memory of what happened?

Pushing the police narrative early wouldn't have gone over well at all, imo.

Plus, they would be accused of influencing the jury pool.

Plus there was a lot of talk going around about "shot in the back", which a lot of people believed.

Going against that without the autopsy results would have created anger, I think.

Didn't that already happen with the female witness when the autopsy press conference occurred?

If he wasn't selling, why did he need whole boxes of cigarillos to make pot filled smokes? Um, Blunts was what somebody up thread called them?

He did not have drivers license to ID himself, only an expired permit. Makes it hard to buy smokes when young enough to be asked. Which necessitates the strong arm robbery to get his stock in trade.

Not much evidence, but then why should I let that bother ME?

Though nobody has commented on the rest of my list.that there are lots of potential witnesses who would see the positive side of coming to the cops.

So, no evidence then.

Thanks.

So now he's a drug dealer because he stole a box of cigars? Wow.

He didn't steal a case, or hijack a truck full of them. He stole a box totaling, what... maybe 20 or so?

And that equates to being a drug dealer in your mind? With absolutely no other evidence to support such a belief?

Again... wow.

This. ^^^^

Then alleging Brown stole "a box of cigars" sounds like spin because six-packs aren't boxes.
They come in a cardboard box.

I think they retail for about ten or twelve dollars although earlier it was stated he stole fifty dollars worth of cigars. That may have been exaggerated too?
I said that they were 6-packs but they may have been 5-packs. Anyway the packs he took are about $5 each.

There is a portion of the video showing Brown bending down appearing to pick something off the floor (you can't see what he is actually doing because it is out of the frame). But I now speculate that he may have been putting more packs in his socks - this would be in addition to the packs he has in his hand. I haven't gone back to the video but I wonder if he took the packs that Johnson had put on the counter and stuffed those into his socks.

Yah, there's nothing known that indicates why he stole them and considering blunts use a lot of grass, I'd say it's unlikely he was looking to sell them. They were to smoke as is, I'd imagine.

Wait a minute. Do we know he stole a box of cigars. On the video someone has been attaching to their messages I don't see a box of cigars in his hands. In fact as he exits the store he doesn't seem to be carrying anything. I was under the impression he stole or his companion stole a handful. I have also seen it stated they put the cigars back on the counter.

What do we actually know?

Here you go:

Gogurt maybe?

Though not as well defined you can see he is holding stuff when he shoves the store guy..

ETA: He took foil packs of cigars, not small boxes. Like this... But possibly a different brand than Swisher Sweets.

Whoa there tiger! Put the skeptinazi back on the leash! He's black and he was shot so we can be pretty sure drug dealing occurred somewhere in his past. :D

Myself, I'm just assuming the cop was a power crazed lunatic out to execute someone, like they all are! :D

I think we can all safely assume neither of these very uncharitable extremes are the truth. At least, most of us can.

Yes, we need more confirmation, but that would explain a lot.

If Wilson left the state, does that indicate that he will not be charged?

Nah. I'm sure he'll be available should charges be filed, which could still happen, as he could still have shot Brown in a rage.
