I agree on the looting part, but I'd also note that it's unclear that the people protesting the shooting are the same people doing the looting and vandalism. Lumping them all together is exactly what the Breitbart people are doing with such class.

Most likely the protest was started by non-violent people who actually care about the issue at hand, and the rioting was kicked off later by people who don't really give a rat's ass about the cause and just want an excuse to loot and vandalize. That's the way the May Day protests go down here in Seattle, and I don't see any reason the dynamics would be any different in St. Louis.

I hope the facts will be available soon. Right now it appears to be a case of walking while black. MB just graduated high school and was headed to a community college. Doesn't sound like a trouble maker to me.

Yet here are a group of people doing just that, and the reaction from the right is...well...what you'd expect.
Breitbart commenters are representative of the right just like the Westboro Baptist Church are representative of American christians.

Based on some bull you just made up. Nice try. Go scold SkepticTank and maybe I'll believe you.

I already did. What bull did I make up? You really think that Breitbart is representative of the right in this country?

How are they not? Because their racism is so overt? Which views do they hold that, say you, do not?

The "right" is a very broad group of people. 20 years ago I considered myself to be on the right but I would be outraged if anyone said I was represented by what Breitbart had to say on many topics. Today I consider myself to be an independent. I voted for Obama and I own/make/seek to ease restrictions on guns; two things that some people think are on opposite ends of the spectrum. But I don't see it that way.

Breitbart promoted the sham ACORN video and unfairly defamed Shirley Sherrod; two examples of their idiot behavior. While Breitbart is on the right, trying to say that they are representative of the right is using an overly broad brush. You should more effort into your arguments.

They oppose the jackboot of the government coming down on people like themselves; good Christian men and women.

Now, looting businesses and going after people who had nothing to do with the shooting is stupid. They should direct that anger and violence at the police.

In every protest there is a subsection of people taking the occasion of looting.
I know that I have seen the same in France. That is why when we organized stuff (student union) we took a LOOOOT of precaution in identifying looter and bad guys and reporting them ASAP to the police, or very rarely when the police decided to ignore our report we simply isolated them and kicked with our own security buff guys and documented with photos and old fashion camera the actions of those persons.

Bottom line before flagging the whole protester as a whole as *all* looter, I would be very warry. it could be that a minority or even exterior people simply took the occcasion to loot.

An interesting side note is that many on the right have stated that they oppose the jackboot of the government and support people like the Bundy ranch militia who stand up against the police who harass people just wanting to live life unmolested. Yet here are a group of people doing just that, and the reaction from the right is...well...what you'd expect.

Yup.

Unless it's Cliven Bundy, David Koresh, Randy Weaver, etc.

Indeed.

Another cop that was unprepared to deal with disrespectful teens. I don't get it why they aren't trained how to manage disrespect. Look what happens when some kids disobey their authority, you kill a kid for the crime of jaywalking and mouthing off*.

*According to the kid who was not shot, he initially said they were walking in the street. The cop told them to move to the sidewalk. They argued. The cop drove off but immediately turned around and came back.

From there it's speculation but the facts which are indisputable: the crime was walking in the street and failure to obey the cop telling them to get out of the street.

No matter how you feel about the audacity of teens who refuse to obey a cop, it was not necessary to attempt arrest, and shoot, if the cop had been better trained how to manage defiant teens. It did not call for shooting the kid who was almost certainly not a threat to the cop.

That depends upon who is providing details of the event.

Police have said that Brown attacked the officer in his car and tried to take his gun.
It might be assaulting a police officer. This is where one of those personal video records some police officers wear might have come in handy.

predictably the usual suspects among the rational thinkers and skeptical minds of the JREF members run around like headless chickens jumping to their usual conclusions on very little evidence.
