I like to describe Dragon Con (now without the asterisk *) as "Mardi Gras for Geeks!" It's a giant science-fiction/fantasy convention, with lots of live entertainment, a party-like atmosphere, and tracks of panels for science and skepticism as a bonus!

I like to describe its SkepTrack as a "Mini-TAM" of sorts.

It takes place in Atlanta, GA, from Aug 29th to Sept 1st, 2014.

Official Web Site: http://www.dragoncon.org/
SkepTrack site: http://www.skeptrack.org/

I skipped DC in 2013, to attend Burning Man (and, to a lesser degree: San Diego Comic-Con). But, I'll be back for 2014!

This time, in a Terminator inspired costume for at least one of the days! Yaaaayyyy!!!!
(And, I might wear my classic Spaceman Spiff costume on another day.)

If you arrive the evening before it starts, you should consider attending the Atlanta Star Party: A party featuring some of your favorite astronomers and other stuff!
Info and tickets here: http://atlantastarparty.com/

Who else is joining us?!

I heard it was canceled.
You heard incorrectly.

You're probably thinking of the dragon living inside your invisible convertible. You wanted to give people rides on them, but had to cancel, because it turns out neither one actually existed... Remember?!

Let's not confuse these things.

For those of you that missed 2013, the attendance skyrocketed, making Saturday (particularly) and Sunday (mostly) extremely challenging. Factor in huge queues for any popular panels and tracks, and aim on the weekend to only attend a panel every other slot, to give you walking and queuing time. 2013 was vastly bigger and more crowded than 2012, and it made 2011 look like a small family renunion.

DragonCon is a victim of its own success in many ways. It's become so huge that it's outgrown Atlanta city centre. Good luck finding anywhere bigger!

I'd like to attend again, as it's been a lot of fun the two times I've been there, but the problem is that you need to book a hotel room way in advance (like a year or more) if you hope to stay relatively close by at a relatively decent rate. There's no way I can plan my schedule that far ahead, and I don't really want to.

Still, I'll try to watch out for last minute deals...

Not too much of a problem if you're mostly sticking to the SkepTrack (however, even that seemed to be outgrowing the space at times), but most attendees do want to attend other popular events, and then you do have to deal with the large crowds and queues.

They can always toss in another hotel or two.

Let's get some sort of roll call table going!
User Name|Real Name (optional)|Star Party?|Costumes?|Notes

Wowbagger|Mitch Lampert| Yes | a terminator, Spaceman Spiff, and maybe Arthur Dent|Might have half a room available
So, it's official: I have room for one roommate, if one is interested. My hotel is currently near the CNN Center, a few blocks from central Dragon Con locations. Though, I might scope out for an even closer location, every now and then.

I'll take the room. You can find somewhere else.

Then let's add you to the table!
