Jerry Brown - Potus

http://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...892f80-0e1b-11e4-b8e5-d0de80767fc2_story.html

"One Democrat who knows a thing or two about insurgent campaigns, former senator Gary Hart of Colorado, said he intends to huddle with California Gov. Jerry Brown at their upcoming Yale Law School reunion (Class of 1964) to chat about the possibility of Brown running for the White House."

That would be......Awesome!!!!

I remember when Jerry Brown ran in '92. I have no idea if he'd run again, but he's definitely one of the better Democrats in the field (which probably means he doesn't have a shot at winning the nomination).

Brown has the image of a flower child, but he's actually quite a sharp policy wonk. He'll never overcome the image problem, though. If he runs in the general election, the Republicans win.

We're going to have to resurrect James Garner if we're going to do the time warp again.

I met his parents about 30 years ago--his dad was the guy who beat Nixon for the California Governorship in 1962, leading to the quote that the press wouldn't "have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore."

They were nice people, but very old. I am sure that Joe Biden doesn't want him competing for the "get off my lawn" vote.

Oh my. I had dismissed him as too old, myself.

Now that's a thought.

Brown/Warren.

Not entirely sure WHAT kind of a thought. It all depends on how badly the Republicans keep on disgracing themselves with overt racism, being caught in lies, attempting to block valid voters, keep people off of ballots, etc, and if they get caught on all their felonies or not.

How has his latest tenure as CA gov been going? I see that there is a budget surplus with the increasing economy but how did he handle the crisis? I know he inherited a mess, but did he do better than his 'Governor Moonbeam' reputation?

+1

More financial credentials than all the Republicans combined (he did save CA's disastrous economy.) And on the right side, which is the left side of course, of all the social issues.

You are probably right. I am a liberal and my first thought upon reading this thread was 'President Moonbeam? I don't think so'.

On the other hand, maybe the Dems could use an old Ex California Governor in the Oval office to idolize 30 years after his term.

Budget surplus doesn't account for many things, like billions of dollars in pensions, and assumptions that the new tax increases won't hurt business in upcoming years. Typical political smoke and mirrors if you do a little digging. Businesses are leaving the state. Over regulated, over taxed... I do not want the rest of the country run like California, no thank you.

You don't like success?

Your argument might have some merit, if it weren't the same arguments I used hear when living in California (over 15 years ago).

Honestly, I don't know much about Jerry Brown. his first stint as Governor was before I was politically aware and his second stint was after I had moved away. Really all I know him was the characterization of him as a hippie (Governor Moonbeam). However, if CA managed to show a surplus, they are doing something right, and if this came to be under Brown's Governorship, then he should get at least some of the credit for that.

Well, you have to use different accounting rules for states run by Republicans (like Ohio, which is a success even though the whole state is out of business) and states run by Democrats (like California) who have to use post-office-like accounting rules to satisfy the critics.

Of course, that's why the post office is so expensive, too, illogical, intentional accounting rules intended to privatize them despite the constitution.

Um, he is governor today, you know.
