Obama is the worst president since WWII

Basically the the Republicans largely voted for RR as best and Obama as worst. The Democrats split their votes three ways. All the poll shows is that Republicans really, really like Reagan and dislike Obama.

As for 9/11, W may not have been able to prevent it, but he ignored all the warnings and didn't even try.

If they don't have the skills to determine who is a good/ bad president why let them elect one.

Rights do not exist contingent upon the ability to use them wisely. I don't lose the right to write to my congressman if I write a long screed in crayon on a brown paper bag about how the Jesuit Jewish masons ruined my tomato crop with chemtrails of thermite.

Sorry, I was being facetious.

On October 24, 2008, a_unique_person posted this prediction: Obama will go down in history as being a worse President than Carter

Darat closed the thread (likely after being directed to so from JREF higher-ups who were aware that a poll would come out in 2014 confirming this prediction) but I thought folks reading this new thread might be interested in re-reading that thread now.

Here's the opening post of that thread, in which AUP made his prediction:

Obama will go down in history as being a worse President than Carter

I don't think Carter was a bad president myself, but I seem to disagree with the majority on that point.

Obama has turned up right in the middle of the perfect storm. I don't know, maybe he is a miracle worker, but I think he's going to be powerless to do a lot about what is happening, pretty well all of it nothing to do with him or his policies...

Spot on!

If the Australian experience is any guide, the crises will be milked for partisan purposes by career politicians, who value their own grip on power as being more important than dealing with the problems...

Spot on again!

But as it turns out, there was no real need to close the thread. The final sentence of the post reads:

At the end of four years, he will be dumped, and a conservative will be elected, who won't actually do any better.

You seem to be confused about what has actually taken place.

Very confused.

I think it was his record on giving Amnesty to Illegal Aliens that they like so much. :D

Good points. Bush got a bad rap for Katrina. FEMA is a distributor of funds and a training agency. It's really mostly administrative, but for some reason most people think it is some sort of superhero, search and rescue arm of the federal government. Katrina looked bad because (a) it was the "perfect" storm; and (b) the local governments of Louisiana and New Orleans did a horrible job.

Then maybe Bush shouldn't have slapped 'Brownie' and said what a great job he was doing. Brownie still wants to blame everything that went wrong on LA & NO's dysfunctional governments but it is patently obviously he dropped the ball in the relief effort. It was slow, uncoordinated and very often just made things worse. FEMA is not just a training agency (although Brownie may have reduced it to that by that point) - The 'M' stands for Management.

Bush wasn't directly responsible beyond putting Brownie in that post, but he is the one who put that slimy toad in that position as a patronage award after Brownie was booted from running a Horse agency into the ground.

Compare this to how things went during Sandy. Go ahead and tell me how much better the Bush Admin was at responding. Oh hey! It was too fast a response according to Brownie.

If that's directed at me, then I have to disagree.

1. I said that AUP made this prediction on October 24, 1968 2008. If you click the provided link, you'll see that actually took place.

2. I said Darat closed the thread. If you click the provided link, you will see the thread is closed (and I distinctly recall that the closing of the 2008 election-related threads was at Darat's direction).

As for the parts of AUP's post which I quoted as being correct:

1. Obama will receive a lower presidential rating than Carter. Actually happened? Yes, at least in one interpretation of one poll. Check.

2. Many of the problems confronting Obama when he took office will still be significant problems several years later. Actually happened? check.

3. Many opposition politicians will put pandering for votes ahead of trying to solve these problems. Actually happened? check

I also noted that AUP was wrong about Obama not being re-elected, and a conservative being elected in his place. I believe I was correct about that as well.

So I'm confused what you think I'm confused about. (Unless I'm confused that I'm the one your post is referring to...)

"W" took office with the Dow setting at 10,500, and left 8 years later with it at 8,000.

It has more than doubled in value so far during the Obama admin. Has any other president served during an increase of that magnitude?

An indicator that more wealth has gone into fewer hands during the Obama administration.

.. snipped for relevance ...

No be fuss, but since this post is about clarification, then I suggest that you correct the date you mentioned because it is 40 years off.

Thanks.

You are making an error. You are thinking in terms of an objective standard. You can understand reality a lot better if you give that up. Start with the assumption that people who say that Obama is the worst really mean it. Then work backward from that and figure out what they must mean.

Nota bene: I am completely serious about this. I am not joking. At all. I can say this safely, because nobody will take me seriously anyway. That is the disadvantage of thinking about things, so you pretty much have to love understanding enough that you are willing to suffer for it.

So, that having been said...

9/11. Fantastic stuff, though it's probably wishful thinking on the behalf of the truthers that it was engineered by the government, it certaintly caused a hard right turn and provided a basis for believing in American superiority. There is nothing more an American loves than a 9/11, unless it's a Pearl Harbor or a Lusitania. That's because it gives us an excuse to go primate-fertilizer.

Two costly and protracted wars. Again, great. Yay military (until they come home broken, of course, in which case to hell with them). Boom boom boom. Mission accomplished. We're liberators. Everyone loves us. What, they don't? More boom boom boom.

Katrina is the easiest to understand. Katrina was God's wrath against the evil immoral New Orleans people, who were probably all gay, practices Voodoo and other Satanic rituals, and were even black, too. Bush looked out the window of Air Force One showing Bush overseeing Baby Jesus' a-stompin' and a-killin' the awful un-American heathen scum filth pigs.

The "crashing" of the economy was the best thing. Nothing since the Great Depression has consolidated more wealth into the hands of so few who, because they have the most wealth, are the most deserving of it. All of those great people now get to have real estate at a bargain price.

Now, you may has some difficulty believing why even the victims of these policies seem to think they are great, but that would, again, be an error. People don't vote in their best interests.
.
Nominated for the forum cynic award! :)

Fine. 46% of Americans believe in creationism and 42% believe in ghosts. So I'm sorry for being skeptical about polling average Americans in regards to who is the worst President. And while Googling the percentages above, I found an article that 1 in 4 Americans believes the sun goes around the earth.
Ah, so you used stats to back into and justify your position that people are stupid since the poll/election didn't go the way you wanted.

They lack a certain amount of critical thinking skills.
Except of course when they agree with your position or elect the candidate you want.

Except of course when they agree with your position or elect the candidate you want.

I must have missed where she said or even implied that.

I think we're all pretty aware of how low the general public's critical thinking skills are.

You keep making this bizarre straw man argument and I don't know why. Nobody ever implied that our perceived intelligence of the average American is a direct function of the most recent election results. Americans are stupid. People in general are stupid, but Americans seem to stand above the rest of the developed world in their willingness to believe in ghosts, or to believe that the earth is 5,000 years old, or to be generally anti-intellectual and hostile to science and culture. Nobody here was celebrating the sudden surge in intelligence in the average American when Obama was elected or re-elected. To the contrary, the fact that nearly half the country still voted for the guy who was caught on tape openly disparaging half the population, or that many blamed his loss on the non-existent ACORN, just underscores our point.

So please, stop with this silly argument.

Except of course when they elect the candidate of your choice, then we never hear a word about the stupid public.

Here's your chance though, tell me about the stupid public and their poor critical thinking skills when then elected BO in 08 and again in 12 and tell me about the stupid public when they elected Clinton in 92 and 96. Then tell me about the poor critical thinking skills when BO's approval rating was at 69%.

LOL! You've just confirmed my translation: The public is stupid when they disagree with your position. When they don't, nothing is said or they are congratulated on their perception.

In case you missed it, I said both sides play this same game.

Although I agree that more wealth has gone into fewer hands on Obama's clock, I don't see how this follows from an increase in stock prices.

I also don't agree with Distracted1's implication that rising stock prices are good.

I think we're all pretty aware of how low the general public's critical thinking skills are.

They are pretty low, but I think they're no higher here in the US Politics forum.
