I have recently noticed that animated GIFs are no longer animated in my browser (IE 6.0).

The only place I know where to turn this on/off is in Tools/InternetOptions/Advanced/Multimedia/PayAnimationsInWebPages (or something like that), but that does not seem to change anything.

The only thing I have done to my PC in recent memory is to install ZoneLab's Zone Alarm. Anyone aware of ZA freezing animated GIFs? All I see is the opening frame.

Oops, never mind.

I had no idea that ZoneAlarm kills animated GIFs by default. I have t oturn them on for specific web sites.

Not sure I like this.

Oh well.

This is news to me. I have ZA, running at more or less default settings, and I've never seen anything about animated gifs. They still animate just fine for me.

Where is this setting?

Cheers,
Rat.

I had this same problem. I never could find any setting that would turn this feature on or off, and I also knew people with Zone Alarm for whom .gifs were working fine.

Are you sure it's not down to a Google toolbar or something?

Edited to add Errr, no, it's just popups that stops, isn't it?

Edited again to add something after a bit of looking:

According to my Help file, if you have ZoneAlarm Pro, it has an option under Privacy > Ad Blocking > Custom > Animation to control this.

Even if you don't have ZA Pro, it might be worth looking to see if it's been added to your version.

Yup, it is ZA Pro, and the setting is on the Privacy/Adblocking tab for each web page/site on your list. I don't know where to change the default, though. I'd rather it default to showing animations, and I could then shut it off for pages/sites where the animations are especially annoying.
