MediumCJSibley said:Brown does not prove trickery, but rather that people fit into certain categories. If Me and Brown give a reading to five people, picked by JRandi, and only JRandi knows about the five people, only one of them are married, only one has a car, one lives in the street , one has a cat name bob? Are you getting the picture? `WELL` Brown Wouldn't get any one of them right, BECAUSE they do not fit into categories?/ But i would get them.. Charlie..

Playing devil's advocate, I can immediately think of an obvious reason why Derren Brown would want to discredit mediums and psychics. Money. As an illusionist he can make more money out of discrediting them and supposedly proving them wrong than being just another so-called medium or psychic. William
I went and looked at the Derren Brown video he claims to be responding to, and I was a bit confused by something...
Although the bit with the clown at the beginning is a cold reading, and Brown says the whole demonstration is cold reading at 8:28, it seems to me the rest of the trick isn't anything even close to a cold reading. The vast majority of the video is the standard "give everyone in a room the same horoscope" trick that's been done by Randi and others.
I like Derren Brown alot, but why is he confusing the issue like this? I found it a jarring annoyance in an otherwise good demonstration.
Incidentally, there was an earlier thread on this same Derren Brown demonstration, here: http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54312
