I work in a small place with a bunch of good god fearing Christains. We have this little Xmass tree and maybe a pointsetta here n there. We got to talking about how our organiztaion dosent have any rules when it comes to holiday decore (although the Xmas party has morphed into the "holiday party"). We wondered that If one day some chip on shoulder employee could ruin that by complaining about Xmas. Personallt I think an Xmas tree is a secular decoration. I mean there was no xmas tree in the manger right? I had an argument with someone about the topic. They said there should be NO decorations, and I thought NO decor would be the peak of intolerance.

What kinda rules/limitations do you all have at work?

Personally I believe that people individually decorating their desks for the holidays--or at any time, really--are (or should be) protected by the first amendment.

So far this season there has not been any complaints or issues about it in my workplace, and we're pretty diverse.

Behind me sits a Wiccan, opposite me Jewish, and they've got their radios tuned to classic christmas music, have up Santa and other traditional decorations, and everyone seems to be enjoying it.

Small company... nobody cares.

Unfortunately, people are also completely apathetic here in general so there are no decorations or music or anything. Not because it's not allowed, just because nobody wants to put in the effort.

The closest we get is holiday themed desktops.

Well Deck the halls with matzo balls home boy.

( Hmm that cover everybody? )

edit to add: Nope, forgot the Zen community for them:"

Most celebrations are pretty muted around here the last couple of years, as a result of ~7 rounds of layoffs. The Xmas party is a "holiday party", but the work calendar says "Christmas" and "Day after Christmas" are official holidays. Go figure.

Everybody usually leaves it to the secretary to put up decorations. There's a few holiday things up, but I think people are a little wary of bringing in too many personal items.

Well, working at a feminist organization is interesting, we don't get easter but we do get International Women's day, and Susan B. Anthony's birthday instead of Valentines, and the dia de la raza instead of Columbo day

But we do put up lots of Xmas trees, and angels but no crosses, if there was a manger I am sure that Joseph would have the broom...

Reminded me of the Monty Python sketch with Leonardo suggesting the painting be called "the second-to-last supper", to avoid having to make lots of corrections--the pope insisting, for some reason, on twelve desciples, not 38, no mexican band, and only one Jesus instead of three.
