You Heard it Here First!- General election 9th May!

There isn't a Standing In The Back Dressed Stupidly And Looking Stupid Party any more? What a pity. The compulsory eating of asparagus at breakfast seemed a sound policy.

Um... the 9th May is a Monday. Elections are always held on a Thursday.

Can we go out and come in again, restarting this poll with at least all the major parties available to be voted for?

Or did I just hallucinate that the SNP is the second-largest party in Scotland, by share of the vote? And if Plaid isn't the same in Wales, it's fairly close.

Does it really matter? America's elections are still awhile off.

I'm an American, so I can't vote in your election. But I voted for UKIP here, just to be a stinker. :p

Got to get rid of those Labour twats.......

And get some true blue Tory twats:D

They are. All parties that run in the majority of the seats in the United kingdom of Great Britain of Northern Ireland are included in the poll

Wich would mean that if every man woman and child in Scotland had voted they have less than 2.5 million votes in total. I don't know how the demographics and voter turnout of scotland comapre to the rest of the UK but that works out at about 4% of the total electorate.

On a good day, SNP votes do make up a noticeable proportion of the UK votes as a whole. The population of Scotland is actually approximately 10% of the UK, and the SNP has achieved results around and in excess of 30% (of the Scottish vote) in the past.

Any poll which includes Green and UKIP should also include SNP and PC. And what's this "Respect Party" thing anyway? Does it even exist?

There are plenty options available to include all serious political parties in the UK, and I fail to see why supporters of some of them should be denied the chance to vote on the poll.

Rolfe.

Edited to add: Even thought Blair has now announced that he will not now be visiting the Queen tomorrow, nobody is yet seriously questioning 5th May as the polling date.

8% and at 30% that gives the SNP ~2.8% of the total uk vote (once again this assumes unform demographics and voting patterns between scotland and the rest of the uk)

UKIP will probably run in more seats not sure about the greens

AKA The George galloway party bunch of extream leftwing nutjobs ignore them

Define serious. There are at present 11 parties with seats at westminister:

lab
con
lib
SNP
CP
SF
DUP
SDLP
UUP
Respect Party
Health Concern

Anyway the poll doesn't ask who you support but who you are going to vote for

I agree, defining serious is an issue. But any party with significant popular support in its country, and with the second-highest number of seats in its own parliament, has to come in there.

Yes, by the same token the Northern Irish parties should appear on the list, if it's to be taken at all seriously. I personally wouldn't bother with single-seat protest-issue attention-seekers, but wouldn't object to their inclusion either. Why did the person constructing the poll leave out six legitimate parties and yet include one of these?

And I very definitely intend to vote SNP. As very probably may a number of others on this forum. Why construct a poll with nutjobs like Galloway's personal protest in there, but leave out perfectly normal parties that just aren't represented in England? I just object to this Anglo-centricism that ignores anything not happening in the Green and Pleasant Land.

Sorry I assumed you were registered down south.

Becuase there are ~49 million english people and ~5 miliion scots and the english based parties run in scotland. Most people cannot vote for the SNP. UKIP will amost certianly be on more ballots and respect may be if they get thier act together.

I've got a postal vote.

Why do you have such a problem with a simple request to include all parties that are likely to be voted for by substantial numbers of people in at least a part of the country? It's not like I'm insisting you have to vote for one of these parties, I only want the opportunity to check the box for the party which I intend to vote for.

If the author can put Gorgeous George (whom I believe has a Scottish seat, by the way) on the list, what's wrong with putting the rest of the serious parties in there? What skin is it off your nose?

I've no idea if UKIP are going to get more votes than the SNP or not, but the numbers may be comparable, and the SNP undoubtedly has a track record and a party structure UKIP lacks.
