Seems that Yoko wants us to have a day of forgiveness every year on the anniversary of John's murder. Well, except her, of course....she hasn't gotten to the point she can forigve John's murderer. As one blogger put it, "Day of Forgiveness, but Yoko Starts out Taking a Sick Day"

So? Why wouldn't you wait until next year, Yoko, when you could count yourself among the founding "believers"?

Me? I haven't forgiven her for Grapefruit, yet.

Has she let Julian back in yet?

One of the articles (not sure if the one I linked) says the NYTimes ad includes a picture of her and John and Sean..... No mention of Julian, so maybe she'll start with forgiving him. (Have to admit... I can't even recall what the falling out was all about. Was it 'cuz he was making money on dad's music?)

Sorry - she was dippy then and she's still dippy now. She should seek help, but I doubt she will.

She's just jealous of Shaun over Julian. Julian had a few hits, I am assuming poor Shaun takes after his motherl

Sean has a new cd coming out very soon if not already, I've heard it's good but haven't heard it yet.

But Yoko is a talentless [rule 8] who bent over backwards to estrange John from Julian.

Could someone please give me Yoko's phone number?

That way, I can call her the minute I give a #$%^ about what she thinks about anything.

Also, please give me Tom Cruise's number, as well as Paris Hilton's, Susan Sarandon's, Tim Robbins's, Meryl Streep's, the Dixie Chicks', Alec Baldwin's, Sean Penn's...

Charlton Heston's.....

Charlton Heston's.....
Well, now that he's in a state of advanced Alzheimer's he isn't being quoted very much (even if he is now on approximately the same intellectual plane as Sean Penn...).

And when he was being quoted on issues social, it was generally on issues regarding gun control, which made sense, since he was president of the NRA.

Try again. You can leave Clint Eastwood and Arnold Schwarzenegger out of your list, too. You might be able to make a case for putting Gene Simmons on it.

You're talking about the latter day Charlton Heston. He got his "bully pulpit" by being an ac-tor, not by being the most brilliant mind on his later-adopted topic. Ditto Reagan, George Murphy, Arnie, Clint.

I was just curious that you obviously had a decided slant to your list. So conservative celebrities can go into politics, but liberals can't? (Which you've already answered by your short list.)

My read on the topic is I don't want to know what Yoko or Charlton or Gene Simmons (or Richard Simmons) have to say on water table management or penal reform. Let 'em stay in their fields. If they want to go into politics, then let them get out of whatever media/arts they're in.

Well, the only explanation I can see for that is:
  • Entertainers tend to be overwhelmingly left-wing;
  • Conservative entertainers tend to keep their mouths shut on issues outside their areas of expertise;
  • The numbers of prominent conservative entertainers is similar to that of prominent liberal entertainers, and they tend to shoot their mouths off just as much about stuff they know no more than you or I, but the MSM ignores them, while publicizing Sean Penn's latest babble.
Waddaya think?

Which is what Reagan, Heston, and Schwarzenegger all in fact did. I suppose you could argue that Reagan's and Heston's movie careers were over by the time they got into politics.

I was "pre-agreeing" with you on that last paragraph, they did quit and become politicians, for the most part. And actually, I'd take Reagan off my facetious list, anyway. He was involved in one form or another of politics for quite a time before he became a leading contender. And if the Dixie Chicks or Sean would give up entertainment and run for office I might listen to them, too. The whole point is that I don't give credence to anything an entertainer has to say on anything outside of their profession. But when I make my list it includes both Jane Fonda and John Wayne. (In fact, I honestly didn't associate most of the people you named in your list with politics - I had to google a few to read about their silly mutterings.)

I just like to throw in a little balance sometimes. I don't recall The Duke or Bob Hope or Frank Sinatra finding it difficult to espouse their opinions and/or show up at causes that they wanted to support. When they were taking the government line during Viet Nam, they were rather larger stars in America than most of the people (outside of Jane) who were speaking out against the war. And the MSM gave them plenty of coverage. The media are whores. They go after whatever sells soap flakes.

You have this backwards. She isn't suggesting that she or anyone forgive her husband's killer. She is suggesting that those responsible for the killings ask forgiveness for those they have wronged. She also points out that none of us is excempt from the guilt of these deaths. She also diddn't suggest that any victim is obligated to forgive those asking for forgiveness.

This is the trouble with our society. We are so shallow and superficial that we no longer understand how forgiveness works. You cannot forgive someone who does not ask for forgiveness. Only the victim of a wrong can forgive the perpetrator. This sick idea the public has that THEY can forgive anyone for any wrong is absurd. It is too easy to forgive when you were not the one wronged.

Has the assassin asked for Ono's forgiveness? Has Ono been able to get past the murder of her husband? Does she wish to forgive the person who wronged her? Even if the answer to these questions is "Yes" then she is under no obligation to forgive however, until that point there can be no forgiveness.

So if I'm a physician who wants to enter politics, I have to give up being a physician before I'm entitled to run for office? Or a history teacher? Or a mathematician? Or a soldier? Or a bartender? A busdriver? A sculptor? A janitor? A CPA? An author?

Do you REALLY want only political hacks to be involved in politics?

Not gonna forgive her for breaking up the Beatles, sorry. I hope she can live with that, as she goes to sleep on her millions each night.

I think you're misinterpreting what she said. She said that others should forgive and that she (maybe) cannot. Should and can are completely different statements. It is extremely common that would should be done is absolutely impossible.
