Yet Another Cool Optical Illusion--The Moon Inside Earth's Atmosphere

Regular viewers of this column (OK, I'm getting carried away with pretending to be a journalist) will remember the many threads with cool optical illusions (I didn't start any of them; I was a mere observer).

Check out this latest one involving a photograph of Earth's moon as seen from the International Space Station. It appears as though the moon is very small and inside Earth's atmosphere. The photo is unretouched, so it's not a trick, but merely a true optical illusion.

So much for trying to calculate distances from the apparent relative sizes of objects in photographs...

AS, I have a sneaking suspicion that you also frequent FARK, as two of the articles you linked to today were also posted there. Am I right?
 
How long do you think it will take before some fool is touting this photo as "proof" of alien spacecraft, claiming that the moon explanation is a "cover story"?

I also enjoy the site. Decent links to real news, without having to endure the sappy human interest stories and the news broadcasts that are half sports.

Plus the level of debate there is better than anything on the web. Ignorant, opinionated chumps who spout their own inconsistent ideas as facts and insult the other posters.

Come to think of it, it's a bit like here, without the avatars, but with more pornography.
 
That moon illlusion is great. One of my favorite natural illusions is "Fata Morgana", in which light is reflected several times to create very strange visual effects (see below).

Doesn't NASA ever learn from its mistakes? Once again, NASA has faked a photograph purportedly taken from "space" but has failed to include "stars" in the background. Anyone can look at the sky at night and see thousands of stars scattered across the entire sky yet NASA's technicians fail to include them in their photos, making the hoax obvious. Sheesh.

Look, Its not my fault if you can't see the obvious massive coverup that Nasa has perpetrated. Obviously, not only the lunar landings are fake...It turns out the whole moon is a fraud!
 
That's only half of it. There's no space station. In fact, there is no space, because that's where God lives. It's all true because the bible says so.
