Abbas did better than expected. He actually waited a WHOLE WEEK after the "peace meeting" and "new future" (blah blah blah) meeting at Sharm a-Sheikh to unfreeze Hamas' funds so they can rearm for the next round of battle with israel--the real point, of course, of Abbas' "re-starting of the peace process".

I'm impressed. By Palestinian standards, this is almost angelic honesty.

I seem to recall that arafat was the only obstical the peace and everything would be fine once he was gone.

Unfortunately a constant state of emergency due to ongoing warfare is very handy to those who want to fulfill gods promise of greater Israel. Our resident zionists will rarely miss an oportunity to talk down any signs of a peacefull resolution getting in the way of fullfilling gods promise..

Who said that?

I don't believe you even read the story, did you Skeptic.

You mean that he "only" un-freezed money that goes to Hamas' "charities"?

Yes, I did... and we all know how diligently and carefully Hamas is in distinguishing money that is only used to brainwash little children to kill jews, from money used to but weapons to actually do so...

Surely, unfreezing the funds of a terrorist organizations "charities" is JUST the way to promote peace...

Look, the guy has to play ball. That's the way the world works. If he wants these guys to not go around blowing stuff up he's got to grease some palms.

So is this a "peace plan", or extortion?

Two parts:

1. The State of Emergency exists because Israel is still officially in a State of War (since 1949 Rhodes' Armisitice Agreements) with several of her neighbors, particularly that peaceful Baathist regime, allied with Iran and now propped against Israel to the the north, outflanking the Golan Heights. Yes, North, East and South, Israel still faces Standing Armies with Ballistic Missiles that represent more substantial military power than on the eve of Yom Kippur 1973. But, what about the Peace Treaty with Egypt, you ask? Hmmmm, should the current Egyptian president suffer a sudden 'concussion' in a ambush suicide bombing and be incapacitated or killed, an Islamic regime might very well grab power there overnight. There has been no shortage of effort being expended to achieve that result, and Israel's Western Front Peace Partner might vanish in a huge smoky fireball like a magician's flash paper. Poof!
(see: Hariri)

2. Zionists Talking-Down the "peaceful resolution" is not a view supported by evidence. At all levels of Israel's political majority, the signs are all pointing to the direction of peace, and a peace that is not very much to the liking of those vocal few Israelis who you define as only interested in fulfilling gods promise.
