Would you vote for a robot running for elected office?

I would seriously consider voting for a robot for public office.

I see the pollbug is still thriving.
Apologies to Tái Chi. I just strongly disagreed with your poll.
I would probably strongly disagree anyway, but I should at least read it first!:)

On the robot question- I'd have to say "no" unless I knew a lot about the machine's specifications and the politics of the people who designed, built and programmed it.

On the other hand, if a dog stood for president of the USA and I was entitled to vote, I'd give it a go. It would at least have intelligence of some sort. And cats would be outlawed.

Just like the man Sam says - who built and programmed the robot? And how do we know it will stick to its campaign promises any more than a human?

And we just know that one day we'll see the sordid pictures of the robot in a seedy motel with a ColecoVision.

That depends, would the robot be programmed with the Three Laws of Robotics, including the Zeroth Law?

Of course not. There are too many unexpected situations that occur in an elected office; I am doubtful that a robot would handly them all correctly. Look how difficult it is for most humans to handle unexpected situations well.

But if a robot can today beat the grandmasters in chess, and 20 years from now.....why couldn't artificial intelligence deal with politics?

Is it just me, or do E-Human's polls sound a LOT like Jay GW's posts? And wasn't Jay suspended? Just curious... a remarkable coincidence in posting style and motive?

Either a robot or a dog would probably take a constitutional amendment anyway. Dogs rarely (if ever) live to be 35 years old. And a 35 year old robot would be so obsolete that even other (newer) robots probably wouldn't vote for it.

REDISTRICTING COMPLETED - HUMANS, 1 VOTE ROBOTS, 12 VOTES

If we create freethinking sentient life won't we be obligated to assign it human rights, too; or should I say Robot rights?

I think robots should have to show their source code to the people, once they pass the Turing test that is. ;)

Define passing the turing test. There are certianly cases where bots have posted to forums and people haven't figured it out.
