Would you like to be a girl?

What do you mean second chance? I didn't get to choose the first time. And what sane heterosexual male wouldn't want to be a girl, or more precisely, a lesbian.

If god give you a new birth chance.

It seems the odds were 50:50 the first time round. I'm half and half on it now too.

If it were reversible, sure. I'd go seek out some lesbian sex, and then change back to male before I hit the glass ceiling.

Would you like to be born as a girl who is asked "would you like to be a boy?" and answers "yes"?

I'd be a woman for awhile, just so I could write really authentic female characters. It would be cool if you could just trade back and forth- higher pay and better advancement as a man in your career, free drinks at ladies' night after work. :)

Absolutely not.

Too much maintenance.
Not enough physical strength.
The plumbing is all wrong and far more prone to problems.
Requires foreplay to orgasam.
Monthly endurement of messy, bitchy, bloaty, unreasonable, illogical and mean.
Glass ceiling.
Bad hair day is actually a concern.
Requires 120%-260% more time to start a car and leave.
Luggage requirement.

I could go on but why bother. The very idea of it sucks.

I don't remember choosing the first time around ... ;) And aren't I already 50% female? (Being male with both X and Y chromosomes?)

I presume if I was a born female I would feel just the same way about being female as I do now being a male? Could "I" ever be female and still be "I"?

Looking around me it seems that being female would be slightly less desirable - mainly because of the still apparent unequal opportunities (in general) for females compared to males.

So on balance I wouldn’t trade-in my lower set of dangly bits for a woman's higher up set.

Re: Re: Would you like to be a girl?

It sounds like a lot of work and, in some cultures, for less social power. I’ll keep my anatomy and it’s occasional perks, thank you very much.

Besides, whatever we are, don’t most people have a strong gender identity? I think of myself as male; I like traditionally masculine things. If I did not, I would not be me, and if my anatomy didn’t match the way I felt, I would be very uncomfortable (as seems to be the case for pre-op transsexuals and some hermaphrodites with parents who made the choice of anatomy for them when they were just infants).

Receptionist : How do you write women so well?
Melvin Udall : Easy. I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

It would be interesting to give it a go for a few months, but long term? No way in hell, I like being a guy.

Only if I could be a really hot girl, and keep my current level of intellect. I imagine it would take me all of 12 hours to get pretty much anything I wanted from any guy in the world.

You've read Gaiman's story 'Changes'?

I suppose that you mean in some hypothetical universe where you get to choose which sex you are born with, and it happens again. I also suppose you assume that most of the attributes having to do with sex, such as sexual orientation, are swapped from the present, but most of the attributes not normally associated with sex, such as basic intelligence, remain unchanged.

If memories remain, then it's a no-brainer. Might as well try out the other sex if you have a chance. If no memories remain, then I still think the answer would be yes. When I think of the things that have been difficult or unachievable in my life versus the ones that I have found easy, my conclusion is that the things in my life that I have found easy might have been slightly more difficult as a girl, but the things that have been difficult would have been much easier.
