As you may have heard, there's a flu epidemic in Mexico which is causing quite a bit of a scare.

Even more scary is this email that not one, but two loons sent to the missus (translated from Spanish into English for your convenience):

Subject: Line of thought (flu)

As you all know, the causes of all illnesses are in the mind.

[Name] researched the mental cause of the flu, and found this:

"Reaction to negativity and belief in quantity. Fear. Belief in statistics."

Therefore, we propose that we stop being carried away by the collective paranoia and, instead of strengthening it, we project good thoughts, not only for us, but for the whole country.

The mind treatment for the sickness is: "I am above group or calendar beliefs. I am free of congestions and influences."

We propose working on the following line of thought, since it is the only way we can help to eradicate this problem:

"Mexico is healthy. Mexico is free of congestions and negative influences."

We have to work on this line of thought for as much time as we can. If you have any other suggestions, please send them to all the people on this list. And, if you know of someone who would like to join us in this mental task, send them this email.

Greetings, and have an excellent day.

(If the English version at times does not seem to make much sense, do not blame me: the Spanish version is as cryptic. By “calendar beliefs”, I think they are referring to the flu season.)

I do not wish harm on anyone, but it would be interesting to spray these nuts with a liberal dose of flu viruses, wait a few days, and ask how well their delusions are protecting them.

Have them explain that to the families of the people who died before it was recognized as flu.

If you have any other suggestions, please send them to all the people on this list.
Throw clamshells at the rising sun while chanting "Illee meeny, chilee beanee".

I was wondering how long it would take for this news to bring the nuts out of the woodwork.

Sigh. You would think crap like this would die out. But it doesn't. Sigh.

Smart move!

I do not wish harm on anyone, but it would be interesting to spray these nuts with a liberal dose of flu viruses, wait a few days, and ask how well their delusions are protecting them.

Just sneeze a lot around them for the hell of it.

Sigh. You would think crap like this would die out. But it doesn't. Sigh.

Does anyone actually take any notice of these things?
