Warners, as a publicity gimmick, did a Women;s only screening of the up coming "Wonder Woman " movie, and got a expected reaction from the usual supects:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/26/entertainment/wonder-woman-women-only/

This is getting big coverage from all the networks.
And I have to salute Warner's Marketing. They knew damn well with would happen, and knew the kind of free publicity and coverage this would get. They just got the kind of free publicity they would have to pay ten of millions of dollars for. Well played, Warners, Well Played. You played the dumb suckers perfectly. But then bigots are not knows for their intelligence.

And, if it matters, Lynda Carter loved the movie with an enthusiasitic Tweet.

Warners? This was, AFAIK, something that the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin decided to do. I don't think WB had anything to do with it.

Predictably, people whined.
More predictably, it sold out, so they announced another one and are doing it in other cities.

While it looks like a good flick, I have to take Lynda's opinion with a grain of salt since she's currently got a nice little part-time job as POTUS on Supergirl's Earth. ;)

Since it's a preview showing (the movie opens wide next Friday), Warner was absolutely involved, at least in terms of giving approval.

I have to disagree; I suspect that Warners worked closely with the Alamo Drafthouse on this. The screening got nationwide coverage even before it happened.
ANyway, Warners is getting tens of millions of dollars of free advertising, thanks to a few idiots who have issues with women.

And Warners Knew damn well what would happen, and how much free press they could get out of it.

A pity they didn't restrict the screenings of Dr Strange to idiots, then I wouldn't have had to endure it.

I could care less that they did this ( most advanced screenings are to a much more limited audience), but I think it really says something about society today that our most effective advertising strategies consist of putting one group against another.

I think we are really moving in the wrong direction here. Everything lately seems to have to divide people to catch their interest.

I could understand being upset if the only theater around was an Alamo Drafthouse, and if all showings were Women Only, and you were really really looking forward to the movie (which is looking like it may be the only decent DC movie in recent memory).

However neither of the first two points seems to be the case, so I can't for the life of me bring myself to care. Yes, technically it is sexist of the theater. But it is a quite harmless form of sexism.

My main concern if I were the theater owner would be that some of the people who are pissed off might sue, since regardless of how harmless I think this is, I think it might technically be illegal (similar to how actually having Ladies Nights at a bar is technically illegal).

Many years ago there was a particularly successful promotional strategy that has fallen out of favour. I'm trying to remember what it was called... oh, that's it, "Making A Good Film."

Seems kind of weird to turn a straightforward bit of escapist entertainment into a gratuitous political statement.

I think it's another example of cargo-cult activism.

I hope it does a lot better than that. I hope it *is* a lot better than that.
Agreed, but given their* recent track record, I don't have high hopes for the film. The previews look good, but so do a lot of previews for ultimately disappointing or crappy films.

Eta: Their in this case means DC

Agreed about DC's recent film output but this film has one thing in it's favor:

Zack Snyder had minimal input with this film........

I do know a couple of people who've seen it already, and they gave rave reviews. Of course, they're also SJW snowflake libtard types, so clearly their opinions are wrong.

A.Even good movies need marketing to get an audience.
B.What constitutes a good film is 100% subjective. Case in point:
You hated Dr. Strange, I loved it.

Yeah well... times change.

Now you know where the creativity went... Madison Ave. :p

I haven't looked at the stories, but as said... unless this showing made it impractical for guys to see the film, just suck it up and let the ladies have their fun.
I somehow expect it was a loud, boisterous, enjoyable time. :p

I'm behind on Supergirl with the latest nine stacked up in the DVR, so thanks for that spoiler (j/k... looking forward to it ;) ), but I've only just seen B v S on cable.... my only wish for this movie is that they dont break into her tribal drumbeat theme every time she strikes her "battle pose".

:D

I am curious to see how the World War one angle works out. It was an interesting choice rather then the more obvious World War Two setting.(Wonder Woman premiered in 1942, and spend a good deal of her first three years beating up Nazis). I guess DC wanted to avoid being seen as trying to imitate the first "Captain America" movie.
I am hoping ,giving The World War One Aviation stuff in the film, for a "Hammer of Hell/Enemy Ace" reference......
