Hi folks,
After a ghost hunt I went on last month, I wrote up this report about it to my list. Here it is, along with an update.

-------------------------

Dear all,

I just wanted to write up a quick report about a ghost hunt I took part in last week. It was with a little paranormal investigation group in town. If you want to see, their website is at: http://www.angelfire.com/wa3/booo/

Anyway, this took place on an Indian Reservation. We met at an Indian Casino at the Lummi Indian Reservation near Bellingham, WA. Then we drove to a school counseling center where the head of the group worked at. It was a nice facility inside, very modernized, and the doors and windows were shut tight. We set up our video cameras and tape recorders at the end of a hallway where a junction lay between several offices.

After sitting down, our group leader Sherry chanted something in Native Indian that was like an incantation, calling the spirits of the area to come. I didn't really expect anything to happen, since I'm not usually sensitive to spirits. But soon, I did feel their presence. It was very strong. At first, I described it as feeling little shock waves or force fields being pressed against you. But then when someone described it as feeling "as if the room were full" then I realized that's exactly how I felt. Even though the room was empty with only the five of us, it had the feel of a crowded packed room with no where to move. As a result, it made me getting up and walking around difficult, because my senses told me that it was too crowded to move around. Out of respect, I just walked along the wall. It was weird, and although I had similar experiences in Virginia City, NV at Piper's Opera House, I had never felt it that strongly before.

It was very similar to the feeling of the spirit of Julia Bulette, the famous 19th century prostitute and actress, which could be felt in her theater box of Piper's Opera House. I used to take guests from the audience there after a show, and many of them would feel her presence as well. Some would feel an anxiety from it, as though some entity wanted them to leave and was communicating that by its thoughts. Others felt a headache or pounding on their chest. But it was noticeable, even by me, who isn't usually sensitive to these things. This all came back to mind last week, as I experienced this similar sensation at the counseling center.

During the session, we got up and took photos around the area, hoping to catch ghost orbs. While we did so, we noticed that there would be sudden breezes and temperature drops, which we objectively measured with a laser pointing temperature gauge (Sherry ordered it online), which was a trigger device with a screen on it that showed the temperature after you shot a laser pointer from it. Even I could feel the cold breeze going through in some spots, and certain offices were also unusually cold. This was in spite of the fact that the doors and windows were obviously tightly shut, and so were the vents above in the ceiling. In addition, all the other members of the group were able to occasionally see flashes of orbs, energy forms, and mists, but I couldn't. I guess they were more attuned to those kind of things than I was.

Near the end of our session, we did a meditative seance to try to communicate with these spirits. One of the ladies tried to channel one of the spirits, but had difficulty doing so, and could only make out a few words. But here's the interesting thing that happened to me. While I was sitting with my palms face up and eyes closed, I suddenly felt a cold sensation on my left palm, and then a sensation of a little hand holding my palm. I saw in my mind that it was the hand of a little girl. Perhaps it was the hand of a curious child among the ghost Indian tribe, and maybe since I am Asian, she might have thought I was one of them, so she wanted to greet me. It was pretty unusual, and I can't say whether it was real or just in my mind, but I could definitely feel the sensation of it. (and remember, I am NOT the kind of person who is usually attuned to these things, unlike others) Even after I got up, I still sort of felt that her hand was still clinging to mine. lol

After the session, we packed up and were all satisfied with how it all went, which exceeded our expectations. Even I was quite amazed, since I had expected to experience nothing. I only wished that others I know who haven't experienced these things before could too. The sense of an empty room being full, the sudden breezes, cold spots, and the little spirit child holding my hand, were all very convincing. And regardless of one's interpretation of them, the sensations of them were real nevertheless. And I was glad to experience them first-hand, rather than just hearing it from someone as just another tale. Therefore, I would suggest for the truth-seeker, that rather than judge experiences like this from the outside, colored by one's own biases, prejudices and worldview, that one experience these things first-hand for himself/herself.

In summary, I was glad to have this experience, and look forward to others like it from now on. And I would recommend, if you're interested, to look for some kind of paranormal or ghost investigation team in your area, so you can go with them and experience these kind of things with an open mind. Most towns, even one as small as mine, have such groups. If you want to find it, either look on the internet, or go to your local Unity Church or other New Age type church and ask the members there if they know of one. Chances are, they will. If you've never done them before, don't be afraid, because it's not scary or anything like in the movies. The benefit of it is that it may lead to experiences which convince you of the existence of a life after death reality.

Thanks for allowing me to share this experience with you.

Regards,
Winston

* Update: March 30

Last Friday we did a ghost hunt at that same clinic again, with different people. This time though, instead of feeling a strong presence in the room, I could sense a distinct coolness all around me. Everyone else could too. And it started immediately right after we did a chant to invite the spirits of the Indian reservation in. Now, it's not the kind of coolness you would feel if a breeze came in. There was no breeze or wind at all. It was more as if the still air in front of me suddenly dropped in temperature. It was very real all right. No question about it.

Are you seriously submitting this to publication here as a genuine "scientific" support for ghosts? You would like to be taken seriously?

Does that mean we have a choice??

Edited to add:

"One of the ladies tried to channel one of the spirits, but had difficulty doing so, and could only make out a few words."

Well, of course not! Surely, those long-dead indians did not speak English, duh!

That wasn't a very scary story, quite dull actually. Think i'll go back to my HP Lovecroft.

W: What are you talking about silly? I never claimed it was a scientific report or that it was published. I claimed it was a report of my actual real life experiences during a ghost hunt. Why are you arguing for the sake of arguing? Sheesh. Get real here.

I described what I experienced, and it's up to you as to how you want to consider the data. I reported everything honestly and objectively.

Hi Winston. I don't understand this. Indians are very good with spirits but where did these spirits come from? That place is not the original dwelling place of the Lummi they were deported there quite late. Are you sure they were indian spirits?

An indian spirit or not would not mistake an asian for an indian they look quite different and their spirit feels different. Our people parted ways 15,000 years ago.

OK, so how do you convince us you haven't just regurgitated a plot from some $2.00 bus-station paperback? Because that's what it sure sounds like so far...

And it is NOT up to us to consider this as data at all. It is up to YOU to show us convincing evidence. This is all just hearsay and anecdote. As usual.

Who was it recently that logged the question about the effects of mass hysteria?

"Chanted in Native Indian"?

Well, that has the stamp of authenticity on it right there. I, for one, speak European.

What percentage of human beings become ghosts or spirits that haunt places?

If it's just a measly one percent, then you would see ghosts all over the place in major cities, where large battles took place, certainly in concentration camps. I don't think there could be any doubt if they were so numerous. Strangely, you don't see that. I wonder why?

What's so odd about feeling "coolness" in Washington in the month of March? Seems like a normal occurence to me. As far as "still air" dropping in temperature, I'd say that happens on an almost daily basis. Like say when the sun goes down. Wind isn't the only thing that causes temperature changes.

From The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce

GHOST, n.
The outward and visible sign of an inward fear.

He saw a ghost.
It occupied -- that dismal thing! --
The path that he was following.
Before he'd time to stop and fly,
An earthquake trifled with the eye
That saw a ghost.
He fell as fall the early good;
Unmoved that awful vision stood.
The stars that danced before his ken
He wildly brushed away, and then
He saw a post.

You are playing fast and loose witht he facts again. Which, in my mind, makes your whole story suspect. Though Julia Bulette was a very famous prostitute, she was not an actress. There is not a shred of evidence that I am aware of that she ever worked as anything other than as a prostitute in her life in Virginia City. If you have evidence to the contrary, I would be interested in seeing it.

I am also interested in why her ghost would be at Piper's Opera House. She had no particular connection to the place. The Piper's Opera House that existed in her time is not the one that stands today. The original burned down in 1875 (eight years after her death) and was rebuilt in its present spot, about two blocks from the site of the original and one or two blocks in the other direction from her home/place of business. So what connection would she have to it? For that matter, what connection would she have had to the original other than existing in the same city at the same time? Inquiring minds want to know.

I am reminded of the "General Lafayette Inn" ghost who were Hessian solders that a) wore boots and b) were stationed there.

Ooops, Hessian soldiers didn't wear boots (gaiters, sorrry) and they were never station anywhere near there.

Yep, it's amazing how often, when there is a conflict between the common image of a historical figure and the way that figure actually was, that the 'ghost' of that figure will match the common image. Pretty amazing, I think.

New poster alert here and I think this is the perfect thread to tell my ghost story...
I owned a house in Central Ontario built in 1861 and owned by the county's first judge. It had been renovated many times by the time I bought it in 1995. The first night I moved in, and it was March, I noticed that it sounded like someone walking up and down the stairs at all hours of the day and night. My ex was creeped out and told her friends the place was haunted, but being the "close-minded skeptic", I had to find out why.
Well it turns out that during one of the renovations, heating ducts were placed wherever they could find room and one of them for the bathroom upstairs ran right under the stairs!!!!! It would heat the wood, expand it then contract as it cooled. It sounded EXACTLY like someone walking the stairs. I showed the ex and she still got creeped out (but only because of her imagination), but we tried something and called the local ghost-hunter (don't ask how we got the name) and reported the strange findings of a ghost in our house.
Well the guy came over with all these meters and special cameras and all kids of other junk and he stayed there all night waiting while I chuckled in bed. Sure enough it happened several times and he got real excited. Called it proof of a poltergeist. This went on for days until I got tired of his woo-woo brigade tramping by at all hours to try and see my ghost. When I explained it he got very angry and accused me of tricking him..well duh of course I was..and I admitted it freely that it was all a test of his invesigative talent, which he failed miserably IMHO. He called me crazy for not believing in ghosts and spirit presence when he has proof.
Anyways he told the local paper about the ghost and they got a huge laugh out of the explanation I gave them, but to this day I bet the guy tells everyone about the ghost he encountered. Of course he will not let me see the photos or crap he recorded on the meters. This guy even has a book out now but alas my old house isn't included. I wonder if he ever approached the new owners about doing ghost hunts like he did to me..

I also had the pleasure of meeting the most gullible and stupid folks in my county..lol..ah the good old days.

Oh yes it worked in the summer too when we installed the central air..a year-round Casper tramping on my stairs..lol..
