Slashdot reported yesterday that someone has taken portions of the Windows operating system source code and released it on the internet.

Of course most responsible system administrators don't trust their windows boxen very far in the first place - not allowing any outside access to the critical servers is the best defense.

Still, it will be interesting to see what repercussions, if any, this might have.

Of course it's important to note that a few years ago when someone hacked into Microsoft's network and acquired some source, people said the same thing. And again when Microsoft decided to open it's source to select 'partners.'

This source code leak will be used the same way the last source code leak was used.

Entertainment. :)

Yes

Of course, the next release of Windows will result in the same thing, source or not.

I mean, this is Microsoft, home of the "critical security flaw of the week" club.

One hardly needs Windows source code to write malicious code for Windows.

If the source is released in the condensed form of "runnable binary" then the answer to the original question is: "It just did". :)
