Will Obama get a South Carolina Bounce?

Hillary is leading the national polls by abour 8 points over Obama, but he has a 10% lead over Hillary in South Carolina. The outcome of the race is now down to this one question it seems: How big a bounce will Obama get if he wins South Carolina (if he doesn't win, that's almost certainly all she wrote, and Hillary can cruise control to victory).

I believe a win for Senator Obama in South Carolina will boost his campaign. If the African American voters of this country come together and get behind him, I don't think Obama can loose.

The wisdom seems to be that Obama will not get a big boost out of S.C.since a Obama win will be expected there.
And,frankly, I don't think voting for Obama just because he is black in any more intelligent then voting against him for the same reason.

SC is a bigger deal for the GOP than the Dems. I'm not sure how much bounce he would get out of winning there. His Iowa bounce turned out to be a very fickle thing in NH. People like the idea of Barack Obama but I think when they go into the voting booth they want more than a sexy voice and poetic language.

Frankly, I think you need to check your grammar before you post.

I think it's about time the African American people had someone other than a while male for whom to vote. I think they have had too many white juries, too many while bosses, and too many white presidents. I think the same about women and Hillary. It's about time we changed the look of the "White" House.

That is just about the worst reasoning for voting for somebody for the office of President I have ever heard.

If (Big if...I have him losing by about 3-5%) he wins SC, I predict it will help him...

Trouble is, he will not win NY, and from the Nevada results, i am guessing California and NM are gone as well.

I think the fair argument is, that all things BEING EQUAL, it would be nice to have a black person or a woman in the WH, as it would be a first, and it would do so much for both the black population and the female population to realize such an achievement possible.

Of course, the BEST CANDIDATE, regardless of color or gender, should be the one who makes it to the WH...IMO.

God,this could be the first time since 1968 we go into a Major Party Convention without a candidate having the nomination sewn up.

What are you suggesting? He's going to order them to repaint it the color of the "Soul Plane?"

The talking heads have Clinton conceding SC to Obama. After tonight's debate, she is leaving to campaign in Super Tuesday states and is not going to even be in South Carolina again until Friday. She is leaving it to Bill and Chelsea to make some appearances there tomorrow. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2008/01/carolinas_not_on_clintons_mind.html

Sandbagging it, IOW, like she probably should have done in Iowa, in retrospect.

Yeah, as much as I don't like it, I think the writing is already on the wall. She's got comfortable leads in all the big states including Florida, NY and California, and in the national polls.

Of course we say the best candidate regardless of race or sex should win. However, in this election, in this time, we have the first woman candidate and the first African American candidate. Clinton is going to get a high percentage of the women's vote. I know many women who are going to vote for her simply because she is a woman; because she will bring a woman's perspective to the country. I expect that there are many African Americans who will vote for Obama because he is African American. And I'm not so sure that is a bad thing. We have had the white male perspective for far too long.

yes, no doubt, there are many in the USA, particularly women and african americans, who will vote along those divisions. Whether it is a bad thing or not, depends on whether or not the person who wins is the best candidate versus the favorite one, because of one of those divisions. Ultimately the BEST Candidate should win. Hopefully the winner will be the BEST candidate, and also be either a woman or an african american (2 out of 3 chances for nomination at least)

No new post-SC polls out yet, but he had a small bounce (about 4%) in the prediction market: Intrade.

Hillary remains the favorite 62:38.

He not only won, he beat expectations. I predict he's going to get a bounce in the polls and that his stock will rise somewhat more in the next few days.
