In a series of sweeps in southern California over the course of a few weeks in June, a dozen agents of the Border Patrol arrested more than 420 illegal aliens and placed them in deportation proceedings.

Americans enthusiastically supported the sweeps, as any public opinion poll would have predicted, but Rep. Joe Baca (search), D-Calif., and Mexican President Vicente Fox (search) were outraged.

Does the illegal alien situation in Cali look likes it's about to turn around?

"The suit, Anderson v. Los Angeles County Department of Health (LADHS), is asking the court to order the county’s public health system to seek reimbursement for services provided at taxpayer expense to the sponsors of legal immigrants who access the health care system."

This is an odd article. It talks about a sweep of illegals then starts talking about LEGAL immigrants and the public health system.

My family has sponcered family members who have immigrated to the US. (my uncle for one example) Basically its like you promis to provide a home n crap for your relatives. He lived with us a few years, landed a job and ended up getting his own place and all. Im cool with that.

But say he got sick and needed medical services. My dad couldnt have him on his insurance cause hes just an uncle. The cost of private medical insurance is so expensive that most people cant afford that. Its hard for an immigrant (or anyone) to walk into a job that provides insurance right off the bat. If any insurance at all.

Should my family be bankrupted just for bringing over a relative who happens to get sick? Will only the rich be able to immigrate?
LEGAL immigrants pay taxes just as anyone else. Why shouldnt they have public services? Are public services only for citizens?

This article has inspired me. Im going to bring my own lawsuit. I demand that the parents of school children in my town reimburse the taxpayers for education costs because they are using the public school system paid for by the taxpayers.
