Can you see this video?
when I try to see it, YouTube says:

"This video contains content from UMG. It is not available in your country.
Sorry about that."

What is UMG?

"Universal Music Group (UMG) is a major global music company owned by French media conglomerate Vivendi. It is the largest of the big three music companies."

I can see it from the UK.

Caption starts off with 'Obama Swiftboated' and then plays 'Love Hurts'. Probably means something to somebody but eludes me.

You should be thankful you can't see it, Bill. Anything entitled 'Obama "Swiftboated" Video' is sure to pollute your highly refined mind.

There are a few country where copyright group are extremly over zealous and assert copyright over stuff which are as far as I see it fair use.

For example a video of qualia soup about open mind, is asserted by the GEMA as copyright thingy because there is some sort of song bit in it. That is waaaay beyond pale and clearly fair use but you can't watch in germany.

**** GEMA, **** UMG, **** way too long copyright law, and **** the coporate being in bed with politics.

This is very strange. I google "Love Hurts" on youtube and it brings up lots of videos with that song. I wonder why Youtube targeted this one.

I do not know specifically what you are talking about when you attack me personally. I think it shows an unethical character to attack someone personally instead of their ideas. What ideas do I have that you disagree with? Also, your comments derail this discussion thread and breaks the rules. So open up another discussion thread.

Clearly this video makes a statement that people support Obama out of love for him as a celebrate rather than ideology or his programs. And "Love Hurts". Could You Tube be showing a political bais?

The big music companies have back-ends to youtube where they can easily block videos that they claim violate their "copyright". As you were told, UMG is part of a French corp (Vivendi), so the selective blocking clearly means that the commie frogs are conspiring with the Obama campain to censor patriots uncovering his dirty secrets.

This august I made a video that contained a Dixie Chicks song 'Lullaby', when I posted it to Youtube, it specifically told me it would not be seen in Germany.

I suppose my love tribute to my wife offends our German ancestors!

:D

BillThompson, Youtube has an agreement with copyright holders to prevent the use of certain materials without royalty payments. I suspect it is the song that blocks the video.

Some of this stuff drives me a little loopy.... A while back, there was some dispute either with one of the Eagles or their record company, and YouTube pulled the audio from all the Eagles videos. You could watch the lads but not listen to them.
However, you could listen to all the cover versions of their songs put up by anybody.

Evidently, they resolved the issue; last time I looked at Hotel California it played normally....

I have uploaded several YouTube videos that can be accessed from any country, except the US. Copyright issues. The complainer can only block access to it in the US, because they only own the rights to distribute in that country.

Lady Gaga's people took down a video I had up on youtube, it was a 40 second clip I took of her at Lollapalooza in 2007 before she was famous. I'm pretty sure that was fair use, but didn't bother to fight it.

It was up for a year or so, then when she got famous the views went through the roof and then it was taken down.

You should be able to use a proxy to get around these sort of restrictions.

Not just copyrighted material.

Back before the raid and shutdown of Megaupload, there was a big brouhaha over UMG using the backdoor controls to pull a video posted by Megaupload featuring music celebrities supporting them.

It contained no copyrighted works but UMG didn't like "the message"

Isn't 30s or less the standard for this for music? You'll note a lot of top x videos shows only show a clip rather than the whole video, trying to gain the prime-earnings-years nostalgia crowd without having to pay for it.
