I originally purchased this book as an impulse buy at the front counter of my favorite bookstore while waiting to check out. it seemed interesting enough despite the fact that I felt I had already studied the subject and the math enough to understand the concept very well, how wrong I was.
This book is a fun read and is full of insight and information that helped me round out and mature my understanding of the famous Einstein equation.
The Authors do not simply stand on the physical and geometric reasons why the formula is correct but go deeper into an explanation of the surrounding physics and the real world applications found in the subatomic realm.
All of these ideas and facts are presented in easy to comprehend terms and ideas and for those who are faint of heart when it comes to math, there is very little to contend with. What math is present compelled me to make many "back of the envelope" sketches and calculations just to firm up my understanding, and I am no math heavy weight.
I found the final four chapters to be so full of insight and information that I actually read those four chapters two times each.
Admittedly the target audience is really the curious layman who would only use the formula for understanding in debate or discussion but even this is an important group to be clear with. All in all I found the book to be very well written and clear for my level of usage and understanding.
The tome is fun to read and very enlightening, and if you are like me and thought your understanding was in good order, give this book a read... you just might be surprised how much more there is to know about this famous formula.
