Didn't find any threads on this one. Who killed the Australian Prime Minister in 1967? Personally, I think there's a connection to Malaysian Airlines Flight 370...

Harold Holt disappeared while swimming at Cheviot Beach near Portsea , Victoria on 17 December, 1967 . His body was never recovered. Without determining the cause of Holt's death, a joint report by Commonwealth and Victoria Police, submitted in January 1968, concluded that, '... there has been no indication that the disappearance of the late Mr Holt was anything other than accidental'. The report (see copy on file A1209, 1968/8063) found that his last movements followed a routine domestic pattern, his demeanor had been normal and despite his knowledge of the beach, the turbulent conditions (high winds, rough seas and rip tides) overcame him. The explanations put forward for a failure to find the body included an attack by marine life, the body being carried out to sea by tides or becoming wedged in rock crevices. While a variety of theories have been expounded about Holt's disappearance, the Commonwealth Government did not deem a formal inquiry necessary, accepting the conclusions of the Police report.

Contrary to the above, Holt was murdered, because he was opposed to American bases such as Pine Gap being built on Australian soil.

Prime Minister Harold Holt was murdered late Saturday night on the 16th of December 1967 and was reported missing around midday on Sunday the 17th of December 1967 while swimming. There was no evidence to support the "official" report of Harold Holt drowning, nor was there any evidence of a Chinese submarine abducting him and of course "they" all knew this and it was 6 months after this website was up "they" then get the Victorian State Coroner to hold an inquiry into Harold Holts disappearance to have an Official finding 38 years later how Harold Holt drowned on the morning of 17th December 1967.

He dived under a wave in a place with notorious rip tides and never surfaced. Happens every week in Australia. Nothing to explain. No murder.

Unless of course someone has some actual evidence.

They never found a body. What makes you think he's dead? He's probably living in China with Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa.

Please, I can't speak for Mr. Hoffa, but Elvis is alive and well living in Tweed. I believe he's working at the Tim Hortons.

If you want evidence of how reliable his evidence is just scroll down to the bottom half of the page and you will find such gems as this one

I have Invoked the 2nd Law of the Universe here in Australia to have all accountable for illegal technology on Australian soil and here on Planet Earth and for violating the Laws of Creation. As shown in my CT-Scan, illegal technology is being used on Planet Earth and this illegal technology had been placed in me against my freewill and consent, when I was under the legal adult age of consent (then 21 years old) during the period when I was a Navy Clearance Diver involved in several clandestine acts, as stated in my Affidavit of 11/11/99.

I feel weird talking about a foreign government official's death decades ago, not knowing the culture nor the politics of the time.

But my major is Marine Geology, and looking at the beach and it's relative location next to the tight inlet of a major inland bay, my guess is the Pacific Ocean killed him. I'm a strong swimmer too, or I was on the day an undertow almost drowned me.

The beach sits on a nice shallow shelf extending south, and while I don't have time to study the tides right now, I suspect that the tidal shift in that area would be like a fire-hose. Plus, December is your summer time, nice hot day, and people get too comfortable on the beach.

I've been to Cheviot Beach, and even though I was a very strong surf swimmer, i would think twice about swimming there when there is a decent swell. Which there was on that day.

The other point is that Holt was one of Australia's worst ever PMs, and there have been a few bad ones. No loss at all.

Here's the beach:

Further back showing the inlet:

And then way back showing the bay:

The thing I didn't catch in my first post was that the finger of land the beach is on sits between two narrow inlets. Depending on the time of year the tidal exchange here must make for some wicked currents.

I remember reading about this in a Bill Bryson book, looking it up, and wondering what the mystery was. Man+Tides=Man gone missing.

I think the main issue here is the failure to note we named a swimming pool after him :D

This is a country that loses a prime minister and that is so vast and empty that a band of amateur enthusiasts could conceivably set off the world’s first non-governmental atomic bomb on its mainland almost four years would pass before anyone noticed. Clearly, this is a place worth getting to know.

That line is from Bill Bryson's book In A Sunburned Country (aka Down Under) a travelogue of Australia.

Holt was kidnapped/murdered by:
  1. The Russians
  2. The Chinese
  3. The Americans
  4. The Vietnamese
  5. The Sea Devils/Deep Ones.
It was a joint operation with a rather complicated management team.

The entrance to Port Phillip is one of the most dangerous tidal areas on the planet.

The surf beaches between Point Nepean at the eastern entrance to Port Phillip and Cape Schanck at the western entrance to Western Port are well known for heavy seas, strong currents and lots of underwater rock formations. In addition, the area is regularly hit by strong winds and storms from the Roaring Forties. It's not an area I would ever recommend to anyone unfamiliar with how to read a beach or with poor swimming skills. That said if you do know what you're doing there can be excellent surf at times and it's far less crowded than the more popular surf beaches to Melbourne's southwest, though you will have to share the area with a lot of fishermen.
