well, shame on you, you should be! But if like myself you find you cannot afford it, maybe we should have a JREF dinner before the Penn and Teller show. Pool Boy will be renting a car, and we could have car pools to the show (or is it close enough to walk?)

This could be fun and ensure that everyone gets a ride (Pool Boy will be wearing his pool outfit to dinner and the show;) )

I waste money on too many other things to afford dinner with the Big R. maybe I'll join you

*SOB!* I'm not either! But then I will be 15,000 kilometers away anyway. Sulking, probably.

oh come on!!! No maybe!!!!

Seems like everyone is doing Penn and Teller. I'll teach everyone my one and only magic trick.

All I need for my magic trick is a blow torch, several sharp spears, and a penguin...

actually, I need some rope and a blanket or table cloth (which sounds interesting enough)

At $500 for the two of us, no way.

It's kind of sad, because maybe if we hadn't donated to JREF already we might have been able to afford it. But really, I can think of a lot better uses for the $$...

So an alternative would be wonderful. I think we might have a car, if that helps...

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT attempt to walk to the Rio. While it would only take about 20 minutes, you would have to pass over an over pass that does not have a sidewalk. While people do it, they only do it because they don't realize there's the overpass.
Someone should be able to drive you over, or the Rio might be able to send a hotel shuttle over.

There are several very nice restaurants in the Rio (I eat at Buzio's seafood all the time), and there's a really nice easy-on-the-wallet place right next to the theatre entrance called the San Paulo. I'm not sure what my schedule is, but it might be really fun to join up for a pre-show dinner!

Sounds like fun. I was just planning on watching TV until P&T's show.

I am not having dinner with Randi, and I will have a car, I am driving in from LA :)

We may not be able to attend at all. Last year, the university paid most of my expenses, but not Ellen's. This year the $500 registration fees, the food and hotel (about $550) and the $750 air fare will strain our budget well past the limit. So if we do go, Ellen won't register and we will avoid all the high cost frills, like the P & T show, workshop and Dinner with Randi..
So, if we do manage to make it, we plan to hang around the hotel lounge to socialize and seek out some of the free buffets that some of the casinos offer.
And attend G6's saturday night party.

Jeff, it sucks that the school won't pay for it, but I just want to say please ensure Ellen is there (maybe she can benifit from the Skeperson telethon) and bring "the hat." Nothing Jeremy Ian Swiss did mezmerized me as much as "the hat." ;)

Hat? What is this hat of which you speak?
Do you mean Jamy Ian Swiss?

Jeff! Pool Boy can't afford to attend the conference either! Myabe he and Ellen could hang out. He's looking for someone or someones to see the sites with (he doesn't gamble, I'm talking Hoover Dam or whatever else passes for culture in the area). He's harmless and good at fetching things. The great part is that I have him volunteered to help Hal and Linda move boxes with books and tshirts - and he doesn't even mind even though he can't attend anything! Please, someone take this man to see Hoover Dam (he will have a car, so you don't need to get a car Jeff, ok? We can shuttle you around. )

Coincidentally, I was just notified today that the school will foot part of the bill, so it looks like Ellen, the hat and I will be there for at least part of TAM2.
