I'm totally prepared to be proven wrong, but googling to find certain experts often finds them referenced only on 9/11 CT sites, while others come up with other cross-references, (although not so regularly). The former is the case with Gordon Ross. Every result I find that's not at a CTer site for "Gordon Ross" is apparently not the publisher of the document that has Toof1234 all in a frenzy.

Purely out of curiosity, I went a little further.
I find no Gordon Ross born in Dundee from about 1880 to present.
His alma mater did not exist in 1984 - it was then called the Liverpool Polytechnic. Would you call your school by its current name rather than the name when graduated? I suppose so.

I'm not a master-googler by a far cry, and I don't have access to technical journals and membership records, so I'm prepared to be wrong, as I said. I'm just asking questions. :)

Maybe this is a tempest in a teapot? If so, let it drift out of sight to the bottom of the board. But it did occur to my conspiratorial mind that maybe it's Jones or someone pulling a hoax? They love documents so much that it wouldn't be beyond them to make up a sock-puppet expert. And choosing obscure origins and schools would make sense then.

if it was for a paper i'd probably use the current name so qualifications could be checked. In informal speech I'd probably use the name I'd used for years.

Yeah, I can kind of accept that.

Alas, I got so wrapped up in acknowledging that I might be a little paranoid myself that I forgot to mention that what I was really looking for was some other published papers (which is why I went looking for his University), to see if he was an acknowledged expert, had peer review of any work, etc.... This was sort of an innocent obsession for a few hours. I'm not planning to make a career of hunting the poor guy down.

Perhaps asking the obvious, but has anyone contacted LJMU to see if their graduating class memberships are public info?

Practicing engineers aren't under the publish or perish rules that scientists and professors are. It's possible to be an expert in engineering without having a published history.

going by the critiques on these boards of his actual paper, he isn't an expert in this field.

going by his mechanical/manufacturing degrees, he might be an expert at designing factory conveyor systems.

Off topic, but the posts above reminded that I wanted to mention that I noticed recently that Dr. Frank Greening did his PhD in chemical engineering at the same (highly respected) university where I got my undergrad degree and that he lives only a short distance from me.

Just mentioning it in case JREFers ever have reason for someone local to contact him, meet with him, interview him, etc., as I'd be happy to do so.

I think that'd be excellent. I think his work has quite a few fans, here (and a few who have honest problems with some of his findings).

I just got email back from England, and the law does not allow the University to give out lists of graduates or any information on persons who haven't specifically authorized it. Guess I'll have to email Gordon Ross.

Over at 9-11 Blogger:

Apparently, I do not exist. According to a thread on the JREF forum, no one by the name of Gordon Ross has been born in Dundee since the latter part of the 19th Century. This came as quite a shock to me and no doubt will also surprise my father, who it seems has laboured for all his life under the delusion that he is also called Gordon Ross and was born in Dundee. My Great Uncle Gordon passed away several years ago and has thus been spared the trauma of discovering that he also did not exist.

He also slams JREFer R. Mackey and describes this forum as "a scary Twilight Zone kind of place where some strange fictions pass for facts".

Neee-neee-nooo-neee!

Shocker. His buddy Furlong had his arse handed to him by Mackey, as well as many others, in the seismic thread. Its also not suprising that his definition of fact and fiction are 180 degrees out of phase with reality, pretty normal for a CTer.

Here is the relevant thread:

Furlong shows up around page 5.

Other than spamming his new attack piece, he doesn't post much anymore. He's gotten increasingly bitter after his debates at the sciforums. Last I saw he was raving about his silly article with quickandthedead and calling "Oct's" FK's. "Fighting Keyboardists".:boxedin:
You can check his posts at the science forums.

Hi Gordon, its me ScottS

I dropped a (pointed) invitation there for him to come here and chat with us. Expecting nothing, and see how it goes!

Sounds like he's seen our blog. We joined a blogger alliance called the 101st Fighting Keyboardists, which meant that something like 400 blogs linked to us under the words "Screw Loose Change" which gave us a terrific google ranking for "Loose Change".:D
