Here's a story that questions whether they'll ever be able to do it. "...Local real estate insiders tell the site they are doubtful the project will ever come to fruition in a town where building anything can be tough, even without bad publicity and funding woes..."

So anyway, one of you 'leftys' care to genuinely enlighten us 'rationals' as to what it is about this particular 'mosque' (oops, Islamic Center w/ A Rooftop Pool™) that has you all so up in arms that you're willing to come across as simple minded idealogues with an unrighteous bent for calling anyone that disagrees with you a 'bigot'? And does constantly spewing that label allow you sleep better at night and stuff?

I'm just at a loss as to why you seem to care so darn much about this particular matter. I suspect that it's a case of 'political correctness' gone horribly awry as it is so completely inconceivable you same people would be 'defending' a Catholic church (for instance) in the same manner had it been the one planning the same thing. Are any of you muslims? Atheists?

I care about this issue because we have a sudden upsurge of right-wing extremism in the country that seems to be all about making America in their image, i.e. white, Christian and heterosexual.

The real question isn't why "lefties" care. The rights of fellow Americans are being trampled on for no better reason than they're not the right race, religion, or sexual orientation.

The real question is: Why don't you care?

These questions are disingenuous. This isn't about people exercising their rights. This about bigots actively petitioning the government to rob fellow citizens of their rights.

I'm two of the things on that list. But somehow I find it within myself to allow people different from me live the lives they choose without judging or seeking to control them.

It must be the fact that I'm not the third thing on the list that allows me to do so. ;)

It is an example of a religious community which wishes to improve the lives of their congregation by providing an adequate place to assemble for salat and space for cultural events and recreational opportunities that are affordable to their members in a city notorious for being an expensive place to live.

Only a dimwit would assume that we would react differently to a Catholic community center in an area with a large Hispanic population surrounded by people hostile toward Hispanics. We woiuld see it as a racist attack of people of a different bcolor and belief system and would rush to their aid. Have you not seen how we reacted to that dimbulb Brewer and her rants about the hideous doom that will result if her cops can't stop every brown-skinned person they see and demand to see their papers? Her opinion springs from her inate inability to deal with religious freedom. She has the legal right to express that opinion, and we have the moral right to dismiss it as bigotry and stupidity.
