Which rules would you consider to be more moral?

I think this is a subjective question, but I think it might be interesting to hear different opinions as to which set of rules would be considered more moral, and the reasoning behind these opinions:

The Satanic Bible

1-Indulgence, not abstinence.
2-Vital existence, not spiritual pipe dreams.
3-Undefiled wisdom, not hypocritical self-deceit.
4-Kindness to those deserving of it, not love wasted on ingrates.
5-Vengeance, not turning the other cheek.
6-Responsibility to the responsible, instead of concern for psychic vampires.
7-Man as just another animal - the most vicious of all.
8-Gratification of all ones desires.
9-The best friend that the Christian Church has had as he has kept it in business for centuries.

The Holy Bible

1-Thou shalt have no other gods before me
2-Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
3-Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
4-Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God.
5-Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
6-Thou shalt not kill.
7-Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8-Thou shalt not steal.
9-Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
10-Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

But the satanic ones aren't rules, they're just.... POPPYCoCK!

The Satanic version is vicious because it is vacuous.

Kindness "to those deserving of it"? And I find that out how?

"Undefiled" wisdom? Who tells me if my wisdom has been defiled?

"Responsibility to the responsible"? And how are they marked out? The phrase "psychic vampires" by the way, is hysterical gibble.

"Man" is the "most vicious" of all animals? Now, think carefully --- by what standard?

Love should not be wasted on "ingrates". How do we spot 'em?

How do we tell the difference between "vital existence" and "spiritual pipe dreams"? Let me guess --- you know.

"Gratification of all one's desires"? What if "one" is Jack the Ripper?

Gibberish.

Trash.

I think that the "rules" are poorly defined. However I think I get the sentiment. I think it is similar to objectiveism which I like to a point. Interesting but there isn't much for me to say about the rules since they are so poorly defined.

The Bible is a whole different set of problems.

Neither, actually - IMO.

The Satanic Bible

1-Indulgence, not abstinence.

How about - moderation in all things. Neither indulge to excess, nor abstain; the two extremes are equally potentially harmful.

2-Vital existence, not spiritual pipe dreams.

Not a bad one. Concern yourself with the here-and-now, don't waste it on what might be.

3-Undefiled wisdom, not hypocritical self-deceit.

Absolutely. No evil (IMO) is greater than willful ignorance.

4-Kindness to those deserving of it, not love wasted on ingrates.

Disagree. Kindness breeds kindness; cruelty breeds cruelty. Sometimes, all someone is wanting to make the change is one kind word.

5-Vengeance, not turning the other cheek.

Again, vengeance sometimes leads to more vengeance. Sometimse, you gotta drop the subject and move on.

Occasionally, though - a little vengeance can go a long way. :D

6-Responsibility to the responsible, instead of concern for psychic vampires.

Not exactly sure what is being asked here. However, I think one should take responsibility where it is due, and understand that, sometimes, you just can't help someone more than giving them no help at all.

7-Man as just another animal - the most vicious of all.

This is a statement of fact, not a 'rule'. Moral? Hmmm...

8-Gratification of all ones desires.

Disagree. One must recognize that not all that one desires is good for oneself, and definitely not good for others. Recognition of the difference between reasonable desires and hazardous ones; and fulfillment of reasonable desires.

9-The best friend that the Christian Church has had as he has kept it in business for centuries.

Again, not really a moral, per se. But I'd have to agree, in part, with this statement.

Interestingly, the Satanic church really is a sub-set of the Christian church. Think about it - Satan is an Abrahamic religious invention; you can't believe in Satan if you don't buy the rest of the stories, too.

The Holy Bible

1-Thou shalt have no other gods before me

Jealous, much? But another interesting line in which God infers that other gods may exist.

Also, recall that these were the rules that the God of Israel was giving his Israelites; of course he didn't want his Chosen Folk to follow other Gods. Don't say nothin' about non-Israelites in there.

2-Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

So no art. That bites. And, apparently, the Crucifix and all that great religious art is a sin.

3-Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

God, what a nard. :D But since even his name is in dispute, it'd be awful hard to follow this one.

4-Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God.

I don't know about moral; but it certainly helps with the mental health, having a break once a week.

5-Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

If thy father and thy mother are worthy of honour; if, on the other hand, they beat you, molest you, didn't feed you.... screw'em.

Thou shalt not kill.

An interesting line - apparently, the Hebrew term used specifically denotes the murder of Jewish adult males. So, to correct: "Thou shalt not take the life of a Jewish adult male". Women and children, as well as Gentiles, are all fair game, apparently.

Moral? Not really.

7-Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Fine - if you define what 'adultery' is. Apparently, in the Bible, this term specifically means sleeping with another man's wife without his permission.

8-Thou shalt not steal.

I can agree with this one.

9-Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

This one is good, too.

10-Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

If I understand the term 'covet' as mentioned here, I think I have to disagree heartily - our capitalist system almost requires covetious behavior.

And my neighbor's ass is safe from me, I promise.

:D

Be capable, upright, & straightforward, easy to instruct, gentle, & not conceited, content & easy to support, with few duties, living lightly, with peaceful faculties, masterful, modest, & no greed for supporters. Do not do the slightest thing that the wise would later censure. Think: Happy, at rest, may all beings be happy at heart. Whatever beings there may be, weak or strong, without exception, long, large, middling, short, subtle, blatant, seen & unseen, near & far, born & seeking birth: May all beings be happy at heart. Let no one deceive another or despise anyone anywhere, or through anger or irritation wish for another to suffer. As a mother would risk her life to protect her child, her only child, even so should one cultivate a limitless heart with regard to all beings. With good will for the entire cosmos, cultivate a limitless heart: Above, below, & all around, unobstructed, without hostility or hate. Whether standing, walking, sitting, or lying down, as long as one is alert, one should be resolved on this mindfulness. This is called a sublime abiding here & now. Buddha

A truly loving God

Job 9:22 It is all the same; that is why I say, `He destroys both the blameless and the wicked.' When a scourge brings sudden death, he mocks the despair of the innocent.

Isaiah 45:7 forming the light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil: I, Jehovah, do all these things.

He is truly Worthy of worship

sad you find being like what is said above silly it says a great deal about you.

It just seems silly that you should have to remind yourself of this stuff all the time. It sounds to me like you depend greatly on what someone else has told you.

yours were
"As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." ~ Revelation 3:19

Man your feet must kill you from all the times a day you shoot yourself in them.

Are you kind to people who are NOT kind to you? I think that's a good hint at finding out how.
"Undefiled" wisdom? Who tells me if my wisdom has been defiled?
Would you not be capable of deciding that for yourself?
"Responsibility to the responsible"? And how are they marked out? The phrase "psychic vampires" by the way, is hysterical gibble.
I suppose it would depend on what you percieve to be "responsible" and "responsibility".
"Man" is the "most vicious" of all animals? Now, think carefully --- by what standard?
As I am asking for opinions, what standard would you set it at? Or does it all have to be mapped out for you?
Love should not be wasted on "ingrates". How do we spot 'em?
Do you not know how to spot an ingrate? Usually it's someone who does not appreciate nor show appreciation for what you have done for them. But that is my opinion.
How do we tell the difference between "vital existence" and "spiritual pipe dreams"? Let me guess --- you know.
Really now, are you implying that I wrote these? Of course, just for your clarification, I did not. You can't seem to grasp that I am asking for opinions.
"Gratification of all one's desires"? What if "one" is Jack the Ripper?
What if one is?
Would that lend itself to being more or less moral than the holy bible commandments? Do you have an opinion on that?

Gibberish.
Trash.
Well, finally, an opinion! As you are surely entitled to it.
Have a nice day. :)
