When was Thorazine approved for use?

I need to know when Thorazine was approved for use in the USA. I know the year was 1954, but for reasons I am unwilling to explain further than "it's for the novel I'm writing" I need to know the month. The exact day would be delightful. I have been so far unable to find this info on the net, and our local library is poorly stocked as to the history of pharmaceuticals.

Try keyword Chlorpromazine or Largactil

Example:

The New Drug Application may have been filed in 1954, but it wasn't approved by the FDA until November 20, 1957.

I hope that doesn't screw up your plot-line too much. ;)

P.S. Also remember, there may be a lag time between approval and marketing as companies have to ramp-up production to begin to market the drug. This can take months to a year, actually. (Although, companies try to "anticipate" when the FDA is going to give them the green light and time production accordingly.)

There's no such drug as Thorazine. Anyone who thinks there is must be crazy.

Why don't you just ask the FDA, since you think they approved it? I'll have them give you a call; they'll be dialing from inside your refrigerator. If a man in a clown suit shows up, tell him "23".
