What's the Deal with Stanton Friedman?

Often with exponents of any kind of fringe science, we find a need in them to invariably trump up even the slightest trifles of anecdotes so long as they have the potential of bolstering their questionable claims in doing so. However, in Stanton Friedman’s case, there has been at least one notable contribution to the skeptical community on his part, that contribution more specifically being his discrediting of the assertions made by Bob Lazar in the early 1990’s. In Friedman, should we see a man genuinely devoted to what he purports himself to be devoted to, or instead a con artist with an intellect enough to be able to create the illusion of captiousness?

He's a physicist who'll sue if anyone questions his credentials.

The fact he's done nothing much but study UFOs for years, a self validated expert, and not a whole lot of coventional physics doesn't effect the fact that he is a nuclear physicist and deserves respect for this.
