What unexplained experience have you had?

It has been discussed, seeing things that aren't there, paradelia, things that in the end, could be explained. But who has had experienced something still unsolved or without rational explanation at hand?

Several months after my partners suicide, I noticed a red message light on my phones answering machine. It was odd, because I had been sitting next to it since awakening and it had not rung. I hit 'play'. It was a message from John, my partner, that I had never heard before. It was sweet and brief, telling me about how he loved seeing me, how he needed seeing me

Yes, I was shaken. I hit 'replay', but it had vanished. I went back over every message still on the machine as far back as I could. I never heard it, or could ever find it again.

Anyone else have a 'yet to be explained' experience?

And I am open to suggestions about my phone message. Thanks.

It seems to me to be one of three things...

1) You misunderstood something, possibly about how your answering machine works.

2) Your explanation of the event is wrong.

3) Paranormal agency.

Possibly both 1 and 2 together.

I never gamble.

But one night I had a vivid dream in which Doc Holliday came to me and told me that on a long drive I had coming up, I would pass near an Indian casino. He told me to go in, go to a specific roulette table, and put as much money as I could on black 2. We had two cats, both mostly black at the time.

I checked the route the next day, and sure enough, the Interstate passed within half a mile of the casino. I pulled off and went to the casino, got a hundred dollars in chips (taken from my food budget for the three-day conference I was attending) and found the table and put everything on black 2.

Red 16 came up. I subsisted for the entire conference on free coffee and snacks from vending machines. The night I came home, I dreamed that Doc Holliday showed up and asked me how I'd done. "I lost everything, you frontier shmendrick, you!" I told him, or words to that effect.

"Same thing happened to me," he said.

I would suggest a dream where you couldn't quite work out where it ended and where the waking experience began.

That's very similar to an experience my mom had about a week after my dad died, which I think I've shared here. Basically, she was laying down and she felt my dad sit on the bed and tell her not to worry, he was sending her some money to help (she was worried about surviving without him as she didn't work during most of their marriage). He put her hands on her shoulder and she turned but he wasn't there. Then that day or maybe the next, there were unexpected checks in the mail: his last work paycheck and a life insurance policy from work that she didn't know he had. Turns out his boss took care of the insurance thing somehow.

I mean obviously a dream-related thing but it was weird about the money coming in shortly thereafter.

Also a few days after my dad died, my 4 or 5 year old daughter said that Grandpa's head appeared on her toybox (which he built). He told her something like, "Don't worry my angel, I love you," smiled and disappeared. We hadn't told my daughter yet but kids aren't stupid, I'm sure she figured something out and had a dream-related thing. My daughter was pretty smart and creative for her age (still is! and her daughter is almost a mirror image of her).

Greiving is a very stressful time and I think our brains kind of go a little weird.

20 years ago I drove home after work one night in thick ground fog (12 meter visibility, forced to drop speed to 45mph). There are four bridges I cross on the 12-mile stretch of highway I drive every night, but on that night I crossed over FIVE bridges.

Sure, the obvious solution is I miscounted.

But it threw me because we get this thick fog enough that counting the bridges, which is how I calculate my turn-off while mostly blind, had become routine.

Miscounting bridges in zero visibility bugs me more than the extra bridge, but if there WAS an extra bridge I feel cheated that this would be my lone paranormal experience and not something more dramatic.

Pretty common one my mother reminded me of recently. As a teen I wrecked a car one night, called her around 10 ish. She answered with a panicky 'are you okay?', without even finding out who was calling yet (pre caller ID days). She knew it was me and something was wrong. Never answered a phone that way before that or since.

On the west coast, I'm on the phone with a friend on the east coast.

I tell her my other friend just told me dinner is ready, so I gotta run. She said "You guys having eggplant?" I said "I dont know, good talking to you, gotta go, bye." Dinner was eggplant.

She says it has happened all her life. Her other friends and family that I know casually confirm, "Oh yeah, she does that."

She says she doesnt try to guess, or even think about it. Words or images or both just come to mind as thoughts normally do in conversations, she says. Like how a responses can pop up without pondering, on the heels of something the other person said.

Another time on the phone I mentioned I was painting a house. She said "Gray?". It was gray paint.

Last September I was sheep hunting in the mountains. After breakfast I sat under my tarp and had a smoke, thinking about the day. My brother and nephews walked by and said they were leaving, I said I was right behind them. I grab my satchel and make sure I have everything, snacks, bullets, knife, Beaver buzz energy drink, etc. I was satisfied, so I put my bag and gun over my shoulders, got up and turned to leave. I instinctively pat my breast pocket to make sure I have my cigarettes and lighter, wait, no lighter.

I feel underneath the pack, nothing, I take the pack out and look, still nothing. Ofcourse I check all my pockets multiple times, then underneath my sleeping bag and on the tarp I have on the ground, under my pack board and other clothes. Must have fallen in my satchel, I take it off and dig around, not there.

It blows my mind that this lighter could disappear in this 4×8 foot space but I can't spend any more time looking for it, I'll use my spare. I reach under the coat I was using for a pillow and pull out the other lighter. It is a lighter with some football player on it and it is slightly concave, I don't like it because it feels funny in my hand, plus the flame is tiny. I flick it and check the tiny flame, then stick it in my pocket beside my cigarette pack, lamenting my misfortune.

I pause for a second just to make sure now I'm ready. Before I stand up, my sleeping bag is crumpled and folded over so I grab the corner and straighten it out. What was sitting on the sleeping bag?

Wrong, it was the football lighter. I'm stunned, what did I just stick in my pocket? I look down and standing there beside my cigarettes, plain as day was my yellow lighter.

I hope it was the little people said to live in the mountains, messing with me. Because my other explanation is, I'm losing my mind. Oh well, I had a good run.

When I was 5 I slipped and fell from the top of the high-diving board and hit the cement. As it occurred I seemed to see myself falling from a middle distance.
