What is with the Windoze updates last couple of days?
I've had 21, 4, 2, 2, 1, and 3 updates on Win 7, and 27, 3,2,1,1 on Win Vista just over the weekend!

Maybe Microsoft is hoping that no one will notice that "patch Tuesday" turned into "patch April".

I've got a little netbook running Win 7 and as I was concerned that there was a possibility it had been rootkitted (hard to diagnose but I wasn't confident any more) I decided to wipe and reinstall over the weekend. Which was fun as it reinstalled and then applied updates and patches and then applied updates and patches and then applied updates and patches... every time it rebooted there were more of them! :D

But at least it's back and running fast and clean again.

I've heard this complaint before, but never really experienced it. I very often reload machines at work, using XP, Vista, and 7. I usually find there's one big lot of updates, usually a second smaller lot after update, but rarely a third lot.

Yeah, now it may depend if it is the hidden auto updates , the one with the yellow sheild in the task bar, or is you invoke wupdmgr.exe and run the updates manully.

Now when i rebuild my machine at home. it is SP2, so there is a stagger because of SP3.

Oh, it's not really a complaint as it's no big deal - I've got a fast net connection and plenty of other machines to play with while one of the PCs goes through that process. I was amused more than anything because it was like watching a film with several false endings... each time it said "Updates applied successfully - please reboot" I assumed that that was that, but it kept finding more to amuse itself with.

Actually, to be fair, I do of course keep installers on the server for all the latest service packs, so I've already done one update/reboot before I go to Windows Update.

They are still at it--3/day for the past week. The it takes forever to "set up" on reboot. WTF?
When you say "3/day", you mean three times per day? Something is wrong if so. This week is patch Tuesday, so there will have been some. I guess if you had some catching up on Monday, then you'd have had them two days running. But otherwise, I had one lot on Wednesday, which demanded a restart that took maybe four or five minutes.
